Sakura

Crystal arrow avoided but unnoticed, Kalgoria Demons mentioned yet ignorant of them, castle ransacked, the Vampires’ abnormal ineptitude continued much to Sakura’s disappointment. It became worse when Sakura’s axe had actually killed the Breaker, even though she stifled the axe before impact. Apparently, a skull fracture was all it took to kill a Breaker. On the bright, he did not mind, Sakura did not care, and her rescuers were concerned of a rear attack.

“Maji de? Tsumaran.” Sakura walked to the rear and would not stop.

Erik

Perhaps too eager to stop, Erik had forgotten to gain fallen equipment after they became available. Fortunately, Zurga’s observation came on time to give Erik a moment’s contemplation.

“What? Ah, yes, you’re right...” Erik tossed aside the axe. He equipped himself with round shield, leather greaves over the fur boots, leather cuirass over the mail, and the Germanic helmet. He sheathed the short sword on his right hip. The longsword was sheathed at his left hip. He slung the kite shield over the shoulder, it hung down his back. Round shield in left hand, his right hand unsheathed his longsword.

“Alright, now we can go! Ha-harr!” Amidst the ransack of the castle, Zurga and Erik...

Annie felt very tired after the battle with breaker but ready to keep fighting if needed too. She was taking a few big breaths to calm her body, brain and settle her stomach from the battle. That’s when she felt a tap on her shoulder and started to speak to her. She replied in a calm voice,”Yes my name is Annie and its nice to meet you officinally Vyras.” She was shock that Vyras asked to make sure that the way ahead to the armory is clear because they are leaving soon. Even though they just meat each other. She said in a shock voice,”Yes sir, I can do that. But, where is the armory so I can clear a path to it and protected it.” She was ready to fight. -Dances-

The intricacies of the situation were entirely lost on the once princess of Sudovia as everything came crashing down on her like a gigantic wave. She wanted to deny that she had any responsibility to this country remaining, would have liked more than anything to declare that they had failed her long before she could have failed them, and that her responsibility was long gone. Her identity was nothing but pain, and all she would have had to do was deny it and give in to what she was. This remnant of her past could be swept away, and if she did then it would be the last thing she would ever have to do.

It would be over if she simply denied that she cared about her country anymore.

But she couldn’t, and now she knew that, no matter what, she never would. With someone standing in front of her that had died for their fight, yet somehow returned to continue it, it made her heart hurt when she thought about how weak she was being. Hiding behind the logical thought that there was nothing she could do for the longest time made sense, but logical sense wasn’t something that could heal a damaged heart. Even knowing that everything was already lost, including her, the knight still vowed to fight...and that was the last straw for the walls of denial she had tried to erect in her thoughts.

Lost in her roiling emotions, Lia barely registered the push back from their weapon locking, and stumbled, almost falling, as she backpedaled. That alone was a very clear sign that something wasn’t right with her; she never misstepped like that. Attempt after attempt was made in the depths of her mind to get her eyes to move, and yet she could not execute the command, her gaze locked on that of the knight across from her as his words rang in her ears. It was all she could hear, even though, in her continuing attempts of denial, it was what she wanted to hear least.

Why?!

The single word rang out, all of her emotions rebounding through the hallway as it echoed off the walls. Tears began streaming down her cheeks as she clenched her fists, the metal of the gauntlets grinding against itself as her fingers tried to find purchase on the palms. She made no motion to fight anymore, and it was quite clear to all of the onlookers that she was done with this.

Why now?! Why couldn’t you just stay gone, and let me just rot away with the soiled remnant that this world has become?! I don’t have a purpose, I don’t have an identity, and now you’re here to give me hope ? Why can’t this world just forget I exist, and let me forget too?

Her words were cut off at that point by her mind, the inability to keep denying that she wanted this beginning to take over. It was too late for her to give up. Maybe if she had mustered the courage in the past, this would have been avoided, but no more could she just shout at the world and declare that it was something she could not change. Perhaps this was just a delusion, perhaps it was over anyways, but the spark had been lit, and it was not going out.

The words from her mouth were replaced by those of the vampiric retainers, and although she barely heard the words she very clearly heard the sickening arrogance that they were spoken with. Her hands, already clenched, began to shake, the anger from before beginning to rise up once again. Unable to control the emotions that were fighting for dominance, she was at the mercy of whatever was pushed the most strongly. The anger was not yet enough to make her move, but it was enough to start bringing words to her lips once again. They were unbidden and she barely knew what she was saying, but they were truer to her emotions than anything she had said in several hundred years.

None of you are worth anything. You’re all arrogant garbage, and you should burn like the trash you are.

About time. Lexius's arrival could not have been a worse show for morale -- was he drunk? Honestly, why his mother hadn't burned him alive for incompetence was beyond Vyrl -- but at last, the crowd began to disperse, giving Vyrl an actual chance of getting to his private chambers and restoring himself for the battles ahead, one of which was apparently closer than he might have liked.

He was torn, however, by the duel happening before him, the creature that defied death itself... somehow. Some way, something that was crucial for Vyrl to understand. How could he leave? Tear himself away from the discovery of a lifetime -- of his lifetime?

On the other hand, he'd already been reckless once, and it had cost him. Risks were unacceptable.

And yet...

Why could the fool have not simply fallen? Feigned an injury and allowed himself to be saved?

It did not matter now. With the crowd dispersing, Vyrl could not afford to be conspicuous. He placed a hand on the wall, and attempted once more to communicate with the strange being just as he would with the truly dead. He put much of his remaining energy into the act -- too much, no doubt -- but was still able to speak --

I will not be far. The offer stands. I can save you. She is more dangerous than you know.

By darkness, doing that was tiring. Engrossed in the duel, he'd not realized how much he truly needed to rest and restore himself. The deed done, he staggered back towards the end of the hall and --

Lia was speaking to the being. Not loudly -- he could not make out what she was saying, but... the look on her face... she was angry. Had he ever seen her angry before? Not like this. Never like this with, with real passion and... pain? Was it possible? Was he imagining it?

This is wrong.

He should intervene. He should intervene now. He stumbled to the end of the hall and rounded the corner before sinking to the floor, out of sight. Dangerous -- but he could not bring himself to leave.

Erik:

Zurga took a final look behind her. No vampires in sight, which would be good if they weren’t so prone to using ambush tactics. The scent of elf was on her snout. “ I suppose we should head back, but first…”Zurga raised her hammer and smahed the lock of the door to the armory. Inside were weapon racks and armor. Clearly Clan Gern insignias.

Zurga recognized the Vampiric Venus Flower insignia branded on the armor. The sight of the flower sent shivers down her spine. The flowers literally eat humanoids who get too close to it, and they grow everywhere in Sudovia. She remembered back to her childhood when her father went with her to gather herbs. He noticed Zurga get too close to one and jumped into the flowers’ direction to protect her. She remembered the flower grabbing him with the branches and shoving him in its mouth. the teeth of the flower gnawing on him as if he were a nice juicy steak. She shuddered but regained her composure. She turned around and saw that Erik had seen her in a moment of weakness. She frowned at him

She took out one of three very large leather backpack and began shoving steel short-swords, longswords, maces, daggers of may types into them. She had gathered around 45 weapons. In another bag she bagged what armor she could find. She was approaching her weight capacity, and left leaving the best stuff behind which irked her greatly Though she did take a few provisions. Thead for mending leather and cloth mostly, but also a sack of gold coins- Further funds for the resistance- It was the only way the resistance could reliably fund itself. The supplies from Lethornia always took months to get to Sudovia, and there are times when the supplies got pilfered by desert bandits. She tossed a bag of armor to Erik.

“Those are for the prisoners able to fight” she explained. “Walk with me” she urged as she moved forward back to the other prisoners with a bag of weapons slunk over her broad shoulders.. “Have you ever lost someone precious to you, human?” she asked I lost my Papi due to my foolishness as a young woman on an herb gathering trip. Just got snatched up by one of the flowers that have been embossed on these very armors that we are about to hand out. Like some kind of cruel joke! ‘Sure let’s put, as our insignia the very flowers that are watered with human blood and eat humans, orcs, elves, dwarves, and drugal for snacks!’ the same flowers that grow everywhere in Sudovia.” Erik might not have realized the tears in her eyes.

Vyras pointed down the hall but corrected himself. “Just keep an eye out for Zurga and the middle-aged man who was cheering the attackers on earlier. They are the only people holding us back from leaving. You can find the armory to the right side of the jail and up some stairs. At least according to what we know about the castle from former prisoners who escaped, that is where the armory is. Just meet Zurga and that warrior about half way and wait for them. By the way, sorry about being so rude and asking for favors when we had literally just met.”

Meet up with Erik and Zurga about half way to the stairs.

Zurga had amassed a decent amount of loot. The Orc appeared taken aback by the engravings of flowers. She tossed one of the backpacks to Erik who caught it (he had sheathed his longsword). He followed Zurga...

Erik listened to her story of herb gathering, which had gone horribly wrong.

“I do not think many have not lost someone precious. My people endure skirmishing and ambushing often. When I was a huscarl, I had to protect my jarl’s longhouse from my brother, Ólafur, and his berserkergang. He killed my jarl, so I had to avenge him and killed my brother. In the end, neither side had enough manpower to uphold the village. It was later taken by Siv and her Raiders.”

He continued to follow Zurga but kept en eye out of his surroundings. Perhaps the Vampiric defenders had either retreated farther into the keep or fled?

“Before you came to my rescue--before I was captured--I lost my two best companions... Raider Sigurður and Valkyrie Guðrún. I’ve known them since boyhood. Because of them I had become a Warlord. We sought Sakura, a fabled samurai who slew entire villages and towns on her own, man and beast alike. She slaughtered my villagers, but my scouts and warriors were unable to subdue her. I knew that ordinary men were no match for her. I thought the three of us would bring her to justice, such a monster deserves the blood eagle. We did not believe the tales.”

Erik looked around but did not see any ghostly things.

“A dark presence resides in her. I don’t know how, but it manifests into the real world, even in people. Guðrún was grasped by Sakura’s darkness. Sigurður was killed. I swear I saw Sakura in several areas at the same time. I barely escaped with my life, or perhaps she let me go? I overheard Sakura was taken prisoner here as well. If we do not finish her, she will bring doom to us all.”

All around Hadrian time flowed onwards. Both distantly and closeby were laughs and screams, jeers and crashes. His peripherals caught a glimpse of something large soaring by outside the windows, while another vampire emerged only to yell at the gathering with impudent fury before vanishing off elsewhere. The intruder in his thoughts returned, once more offering its aid, offering to save him, even going on to claim that 'she' was more dangerous than he thought. Two arrogant voices spoke up from the sidelines, dismissing his vows and his chances of even surviving this scenario, listing all manner of beings who would kill him.

So much to take in... But it was only one that held his attention. Only one that spoke with unrestrained emotion, breaking past the dam that had long been threatening to overflow. Lia broke - tears streaming down her face as she let loose everything that his arrival had threatened to bring forth, his heart aching as he listened without breaking his gaze. Yet he could see it - that fire in her eyes - burning all the brighter and twisting itself into a true direction.

It started when she spat her fury at the monsters around them.

No...

It started when their eyes first locked in this hallway.

" Because to forget is to forgive what they did to you, " Came his quiet response, practically a whisper on the winds. The glow of his eyes grew brighter once again, wisps of ghostly blue energy leaking into the air. " We will forget nothing ! "

Finally his gaze broke from the girl before him, the icy intensity of his eyes turning upon the crowd - his sword raised from the ground where he had made his pledge, frost having fully spread from the handle all the way down the blade, and the bitter wind in the hall suddenly becoming sharply colder. Ethereal eyes fell upon two vampires in particular - Sven and Hakkon, the only ones amidst the crowd who stood out.

" Then the path is clear - escape over your broken corpses. "
