Expect a shorty here. I blame mood. <.<

Chapter 20: Out From Under

The castle of Iericho was silent and serene. The clash of blades ceased to exist. But a sense of hopelessness and failure filled the air. No one knew what else to expect now that Zin had accomplished his goal and claimed Modello's lifeless body. Allister lets out a frustrated sigh, his eyes turning to his gathering comrades. "Come everyone," he said. "We must recoil to Avdima."

Silently, the night passed as the group from Avdima returned to their capital. In the middle of the plain of green that was caught in the feud between the two cities, there were many mixed feelings about what was to come. What to expect. Maybe Zin was going to win. The sky was a battle between bright and blue, between the sun and the moon.

Before the eyes of the soldiers that marched back to their kingdom in utter defeat, a city ravaged by death and tyranny. The prince of this city in ruins stares upon it, his indigo purple eyes filled with so many emotions. A war was waged in himself, causing an warm fear to take hold of his body. "Am I a failure?" he asked himself, a tear of sweat crawled down his forehead.

Suddenly, he felt something take grasp upon his left shoulder. He scrolled his burdened eyes over to his left. He gazed upon the flawless face of his beloved sister, Alena. She wore a smile on her face, a smile that brought confidence and courage to the prince.

Just before the prince crumbled under the burden brought, he was lifted and put back together by the princess that shared the same feelings. But with a smile, the prince realized that he and his country will reborn from the ashes, just as his country has done in the past.

Allister drew in breath, oxygen rushing in his nostrils like a pack of wolves after prey. His eyelids closed shut, his facial mask on his face relaxed. The windstorm of air then rushed out of his nostrils, his indigo purple irises revealing after the forced imprisonment in the darkness.

His vision looking back upon the kingdom and city that was dancing between blaze and smothering smoke. The prince turned to his allies. "I must thank you all," he thanked. "For everything you've done."

"It's not like we wouldn't choose to fight," said Lite. "After all, this is our city too, right?"

Allister shook his head. "Absolutely." he answered.

"C'mon, 'prince'," said Richard, smirking arrogantly. "Are you really that desperate? Thanking your slaves who envy your status is such a sign of weakness."

Bart turns to Richard, his hands wrapped his blue glowing string that traveled all around Richard's body. "You know," said Bart. "I'm so glad you never become prince..."

"You would be surprised." he replied to Bart.

"No, Richard, you are wrong." replied Allister, his eyes dead focused upon him. "These people are the only reason this kingdom is living and breathing. They swear their lives to our cause, they have my complete respect."

"Your 'cause' is so overrated, don't you think?" said Richard. "Peace this, peace that. Blah, blah, blah. All a bunch of nonsense if you ask me."

"Richard," called Moriah. "Who asked for your worthless opinion? Nobody. So shut your mouth or I'll shut it for you.."

"Dear Moriah," replied Richard. "I can't help the fact that I have such a melodious voice. And such a voice can express such an absolutely correct statement so perfectly."

"It's understandable that you believe our cause is overrated." said Allister. "But the fact remains, thanking these people is not a sign of weakness, but a sign of strength."

"As you wish, 'prince'." Richard closed his eyes, but his arrogant smirk still stood on his face. Allister turn to face back onto the city. After a brief look upon the ruined city, his feet march on. His metal boots kiss the blood tainted grass, as his allies follow behind him.

A gentle breeze brushes across the group, loose clothing gently dances with the wind, pointing like an arrow to the west. Towards them and just behind the city, the radiant sun began to rise into the sky with hardly a cloud in the sky.

The bangs in Allister's face blew gently with the wind, interfering with his vision in his left eye. His eyes stared upon his kingdom with intensity. "Don't worry my people," he said in his head. "Just like the sun, we will rise."

In a land that seemed frozen by piles of snow, beyond the mountains and forests, laid a small city. A small city that was protected by gray stone that was blanketed by snow like a new coat of paint. Inside the stone walls laid a small village, with cities and shops that bustled with people cloaked in heavy fur coats of different animals.

The north part of the city laid a giant castle, also protected by the very same stone as the walls that protected the city. Small snowflakes gently completed the journey from the sky and joined the millions of other snowflakes that laid in piles of snow all around the city that too join in the same achievement.

Outside the giant wooden gates of the castle, two soldiers stood on guard. They wore a steel med helmet, along with a long sleeved chainbody and chainlegs. They wore leather boots that reached mid-shin that was plated with steel armour at the front of the boot. On top of their chainbody was a silver Poncho, on it a symbol of a mask seen in a masquerade festival party back in the Renaissance time period.

They held both shield and sword in their hands, their shields bears the same symbol in their Poncho. They stood beside the door, one to the right and the other to the left. The guard to the left drew breath into his body through his nostrils and quickly released it through his mouth. "Damn," he said to his comrade. "It's freezing."

The knight to the right raised an eyebrow, turning his head over to his comrade. "Oh, really?" he replied. "I didn't notice the millions of snowflakes falling from the sky, let alone the snow that covers the ground. Or the heat of my breath touching the frozen air."

"Geez, Harland," said the guard. "Why are you such a jerk?"

"Can't help that you point out the obvious."

"Well, whatever," said the guard, brushing off Harland's comment. "Say...do you think he will end this war?"

"For our family's sake, I sure hope so." The two look up towards the sky, the thousands of snowflakes that blended together with the light gray sky fell upon their faces. "Because, I think, at any moment, Zamorak could easily crush us with his hand if he so pleased."

Inside the castle, in a room encased by gray stone. A boy equipped in white armour laid soundless upon a bed covered by wool sheets. This white armour he wore looked similar to that of the Varrock armour level-three and the edges of the armour were trimmed in red. He wore a red cape, it was sandwiched flat under his body and the bed. His face was concealed by a red hood.

His eyes were closed shut. His skin was pale, and his body short and thin. To his left, flames danced under the chimney, flickering as the time passed. The boy laid silent and peaceful, his mind empty with thought. But then, there was a knock at the door.

"Where am I?" whispered an invisible body around the boy. His hollow eyes gazed upon the boy. "This boy..."

"Come in." said the boy to the person who knocked on the door.

The door pushed opened, revealing a man. He had gelled back brown hair and a goatee, a patch coated his left eye. He had tan skin and appeared to be in his early 30's. He wore a silver cape, and was coated in steel plate armour. "Lord Zion," said the man. "A moment of your time."

"Of course," said Zion, sitting up from his bed. "Speak."

"Thank you." replied the man, shutting the door behind him. The man looked upon Zion seriously, his pale blue eye gazed upon the boy. "It seems Lord Zamorak's elite army is on the move."

"Where does he head?"

The man held back his words for a moment, gathering himself to speak the words. "Here, my lord..." silently replying the man. "They marched here...to Lucio. They shall be here within the end of the week."

"Hmm..." thought Zion, gathering his thoughts. His face turns to his left, his irises gazing upon the waltzing flames. "Ready the people immediately. I will not accept innocent casualties."

"What of the men?"

"Ready them as well." commanded Zion.

The man bowed his head to Zion. "As you wish, sir." he replied, his voice nervous.

"You need not worry, Lance," assured Zion. "I will use all of my power to make sure Alicia and everyone is safe from harm."

"T-thank you, my lord." said Lance, his body turning to the door. His hand reached for the doorknob. Once gripped, he twists it. The door unlocks. He pulls the door open, exitting with the door closed behind him.

Zion turns his head over to his right, a window beside his bed. His irises watched as the snowflakes fall from the sky. The snowflakes waltz with each other like a massive ball. His reflection appeared on the window, his face almost entirely concealed by the hood. His hands grasped upon his hood and pulled it down. His entire head was revealed.

His hair was blonde, long and tied in a braided ponytail. His irises were emerald green as if they were the stone itself. He gazed upon his reflection for a while, like he was staring into his own soul. A good ten minutes pass, but then his eyes are stolen by people walking in the streets.

One person in particular was this young girl about the age of fourteen. She had chocolate brown hair and pale blue eyes. Her skin pale and her face cloaked by a radiant smile. She was concealed by a wolf fur cloak that reached down from neck to ankles.

The young girl's eyes are taken to what she sees in front of her. She raises her left hand and waves it frantically. She rushes over to where she was waving. She quickly embraces a man in a wolf fur cloak. The man appeared to be Lance.

A small but gentle smile grew on Zion's face. But then a moment later, his smile disappears. His emerald green eyes turn to his right. "I know you're here," he said out loud. "Modello Mercer."
