Deflecting yet another slash of the Revenant's massive claws, then quickly ducking behind his shield to avoid a magic burst fired from the shadows, Vrael assessed their situation. He was currently locked in combat with the massive revenant who had first attacked, while smaller Revenants lined the walls of the cave, firing Ranged and Magical attacks whenever a clear shot presented itself. A brief glance behind him confirmed his guess that Fallion was in a similar predicament, holding his own against what looked like the ghosts of two large werewolves.
Thinking quickly, Vrael ducked under an overhand strike thrown by his assailant, stepped up under its guard and expertly stabbed his sword between its ghostly ribs. As the beast crumpled to the floor, he realized it had been an Orc, viciously strong and inherently cruel. Leaping away from the fading wisps of his kill, he quickly put up his shield and charged the line of Hobgoblins lining the walls.
After a few more minutes of battle, the cave again became quiet. Vrael looked up from the ghostly corpse of the last Revenant and assessed the scene. Fallion was striding towards him, blood running down his left arm from various cuts he had obtained during the fight.
"I told you to practice protecting your left side more, you are all right. It will get you killed one day." Vrael remarked, as his muscular comrade strolled over and sat beside him.
"Ah posh to that mate, I'm fine by all accounts. Ye know, I was just thinkin'. Isn't the point of the battle to keep yer weapon bloodied and yer body dry? Whys it that my blade is clean, but me life juices gush onto the floor? Seems a bit harsh."
Vrael began to chuckle. "Revenants dont bleed, Fallion. Only people who can't protect their left do."
But as he said it, he thought to himself, 'Not true. Innocent wives and children bleed as well at the hands of these soulless ********.'
And as he thought that, he was again consumed by the agony of his loss, at the hands of the Revenants.
