Hello everyone! As the title indicates, you've found my story about a gnome child (named Glevus) and his encounter with the elves south of the Tree Gnome Stronghold.

This multi-part story takes place near the end of the Fourth Age, in the year 1930. It might be handy to have some knowledge of elven and gnomish history in this period of time to fully appreciate the story.

New parts of the story are released semi-regularly, and I'll just post them at the end of the thread. Hence this handy li'l Table of Contents!

Oh, one more thing. Don't ask why, but everything's written in Latin. Since that wasn't particularly my brightest idea, each part is also accompanied by an English translation. On a related note, if you spot any errors in spelling, grammar or syntax in my Latin, please don't hesitate to notify me!

:)

I hope you enjoy the story!

note for some declensions: gnome=gnomus, -i, m ; goblin=goblin, -is, m ; ogre=oger, -gri, m ; elf=elf, -vis, f

Also, random }s and /s are to bypass the censor.

PART I

Collem puer gnomus ascendit; postremo densam goblinum silvam reliquit.

(quippe gnomo omnes celsi videntur, praesertim liberis...) Statim Glevus horrescere, sperare hospitem hunc illi non nocere. Timide aspicit, et pulcherrimam faciem videt. Elf subridens conquexit.

'Mihi,' inquit 'nomen Ilfeen.' Dulcis vox huic Ilfeeni erat, Glevus putavit. Adhuc in/tue\batur; numquam elvem, nedum tam pulchram viderat. 'Me intellegisne?' curiosula tum rogavit.

'Per Guthigem,' cogitavit, 'certius respondere debeo!' deinde nomen balbut{iv}it. Ilfeen hoc audito {subs}edit et breviter agros vastos candentiaque aedificia elvium admirati sun{{t}}.

Tum 'cur venisiti?' Ilfeen rogat. Glevus verum nescit; sed domi neminem habebat - nullos amicos familiaresve etiam delicias omnino nullas.
'Speculator sum' quasi audaciter respondet.
Elf arridet, 'pauci gnomi iter ad regnum no{str}i Baxtoriani peregerunt. Oaknocke/*\ proximum fuisse credo. Illum no/\s/\ti?'

Per alteram horam Ilfeen manuit. 'Gleve...fortasse non redeas?' Id gnomulum paulo terruit.

PART I
(translation)
The gnome boy climbed up the hillock; finally, he left the dense goblin forest behind him. Goblins of the Thorobshuun tribe lived in it, having been driven out earlier by the ogres, and would sometimes even attack gnomes. They could not leave because the elves ruled the territory outside the woods.

The boy was not only more agile than the goblins, but also cleverer, quicker and more alert; he was easily able to evade those warty [goblins]. His hat was a bit dirty, but he didn't care: from the hill he could see what he had come for.

In school, Eleria, Queen of the Gnomes and Healthorg's wife, had often told of the elves' kingdom: how magnificent their crystal structures were, how graceful the women, how skilful the men. The elves were always said to be as honourable as the gnomes themselves.

Glevus arrived in order to see their society. He had often enough heard the stories – but now he believed not even his own eyes. A gentle breeze stroked his face. He felt something pleasant, and enjoyed the sight.

Out of nowhere, he notices a tall person in front of him – why had he missed their arriving?! (of course, to a gnome, everyone seems tall, especially to children...) Glevus was immediately shaken, and hoped that this newcomer meant him no harm. He timidly looks up, and sees the most beautiful visage. A smiling elf squatted before him.

'My name,' she said 'is Ilfeen.' The voice of this Ilfeen was sweet, Glevus thought. He was still staring; he had never seen an elf, let alone such a pretty one. 'Can you understand me?' the curious [elf] then asked.

'By Guthix,' he thought, 'I quite have to answer!' and subsequently stuttered out his name. Having heard it, Ilfeen sat down and they briefly admired the vast fields and shimmering buildings of the elves.

'Why have you come?' Ilfeen then asks. Truly, Glevus does not know, but, at home, he did not have anyone – no friends, no family, not even any pleasure at all.
'I am an explorer!' he responds pseudo-confidently.
The elf smiles at this; 'Few gnomes have traversed the path to the kingdom of our Baxtorian. I believe Oaknock to have been the last one. Do you know him?'

Ilfeen stayed for another hour. 'Glevus...shouldn't you perhaps go back?' This frightened the little gnome a bit. He had no desire to return to his home! Before he could protest, however, a large brazier, admittedly far away but clearly visible, was suddenly lit. As it burned with a cyan flame, Ilfeen became worried. 'That sign...'

Glevus understood not what was happening, but he realised the matter was serious.

Lol for some reason I thought that gnome would find a baxtorian' human subject and think that was an elf, and get some odd conversation from that, before finding an actual one :P

Nice story so far, keep going!! :)

PART II

'Redierunt..!' susurravit Ilfeen formidulosa. 'Decedere debeo.' Glevus hanc occasionem capiens cito respondit 'Num me solum relinquas? Isti goblines me certe occident!' Quippe nugae, tamen probaverit.

Paulisper cogitans an elves falli non possun/t\ indicet, tum Ilfeen suspirat Glevoque dicit eum secum venire posse. Etsi suum dolulum impetrasse non credidit, laetissime nutabat. Civitatem elvium celebrem visurus erat!

Ilfeeni res haec minus iu/cun\d/a erat quoniam accuratius quid ignis significaverit sci\v/it. Abhinc ali/quot\ menses malum abominandum saltum Arandare/m\ acciderat. Ita omnis communicatio c{u}|m| patria, Tirannwne, abrupta est. Quinque exploratores fortes in Prifddinatem per Iter Subterraneum missi erant ut causam reperirent. Nunc redierant.

'Noli me deserere, tui custos ero. Manum cape.' Pusillum granum extraxit et tenens Glevi manum canebat. Revera, Glevus eam sine voce loquentem vidit. Tunc circumiecta vanes//c\\u//n|t et gnomus in domo apparet lignea marmorea crystallosa. Miratus 'ubi sumus?' rogabat, dum Ilfeenem abesse agnoverit. Quamvis animosus, illic manere decrevit.

~

'Mehercule, quid faciam...' Nimis cito liquerat. Ubi sit? Probabiliter apud agros septentrionales...aut alibi... Aestimabat statum: elves gnomulo non noceant. Goblinum silvam solus transiit - per nonnullas horas vivet. Coetum visere debuit .

Plurimae elves iam convenerant in senatu. Ibi rex ipse facie severa gravique vultu apparuit. Omnes aliquid horribile accidisse intellexerunt. Amaritie et dolore locutus Baxtorian/us\ est. 'Legatio negotium per/fec\erunt. Adwr rediit. Alii...' Gemuit. 'Alii interierunt.' Consessus per/h\orrescit. 'Calamitose,' inquit 'istud non omne.'

~

Ubi primum sonum audiverat, Glevus se celavit. Duo homines in domum intraverunt. Arma murina gerebant; in thorace calva formidabilis depicta erat.

PART II
(translation)
'They have returned..!' a fearful Ilfeen whispered. 'I have to go.' Glevus, seizing this opportunity, quickly responded 'You couldn't leave me alone, right? Those goblins will surely kill me!' Nonsense of course, but he could try nonetheless.

Briefly considering whether she should point out that elves cannot be deceived, Ilfeen then sighs and tells Glevus he can come with her. Although he could not believe his little trick had succeeded, he very happily nodded. He was going to see the famous elven state!

To Ilfeen, this matter was less pleasant, seeing that she knew all too well what the fire meant. Several months ago, an ill-omened evil had befallen the Arandar pass. Thus all contact with the homeland, Tirannwn, was severed. Five brave scouts were sent to Prifddinas through the Underground Pass to find out the cause. Now they had come back.

'Do not leave my side; I shall be your custodian. Take my hand.' She took forth a tiny seed and, holding Glevus's hand, started singing. Rather, Glevus saw her speak without voice. Then, the surroundings vanish and the gnome appears in a house made of wood, marble and crystal. Astonished, he tried to ask 'where are we?' until he realised Ilfeen to be absent. Although he was adventurous, he decided to wait there.
