» Chapter Nine -- The Treasure Vault «
Zoë had been a wreck ever since Dallion had been kidnapped. They had docked in the Western Lands many days ago and had rented an apartment in Catherby. Zoë heard Dustin banging on the door again.
“Zoë, let me in! Oh, Saradomin, why did I join these kids?” he asked to the god, but received no answer in reply.
Zoë threw one of Dustin’s throwing knives murderously at the door handle. It struck the key hole dead on, and Dustin stumbled in.
“Okay, why are you acting like a bloody idiot?” asked Dustin. “Dallion is gone, there is nothing we can do. Get over it.”
The truth was Zoë was never going to get over it. She had started liking Dallion when they retrieved the key and the ruby from that old man. Her liking of him had developed more and more, and now she loved him.
“You can do something about it,” said a deep, solid, loud voice. Zoë instantly stood up, an arrow already notched in place, ready to fire. Dustin was holding his whip fiercely.
“Who’s there?” he asked.
Then, from the fire place, a head did not appear, but a human body stepped out of the fireplace. Zoë recognized him by a hole on his cheek.
“Alder Goldrider!” she said. “Dallion’s father!”
“Yes, child, it is I. But now we have a serious crisis on our hands. Sit down, I’ll tell you what has happened.”
Zoë could barely breathe. Alder was supposed to be dead, but here he was before her eyes!
Zoë sunk into a chair while Dustin sat on the bed. “What’s going on?” he asked.
Alder turned to him. “I am the living dead. For a few minutes, at least. So speak carefully to me.
“So anyway, I’m Alder Goldrider, Dallion’s dad. My god, Saradomin, is letting me have a few moments to explain things to you. We’re in for a lot of trouble if we don’t stop Trey.

“You see, he captured my son, and he treated him fairly well on the boat. But then they took him to Lumbridge and found the entrance to the treasure vault. Now Trey and Dallion are down there, battling through every single element known to man, to get the fortune.
“If Trey gets past all the traps, he will have enough money to become the king of Misthalin, Asgarnia and Kandarin. Odd, isn’t in? The Three Kings in one man. Trey intends to betray Drevious Steel and become the king and take all the power for himself.”
All was silent for a few minutes. Then Zoë asked, “So where is the entrance?”
Alder calmly turned his head to hers. “The little house in the graveyard. In Lumbridge.”
“LUMBRIDGE!? We started the journey in Port Sarim and now you expect us to go back to LUMBRIDGE!?” bellowed Dustin.
“Do you value your life as well as the entire population of both Lands?” asked Alder.
Dustin considered this. “No,” he said, sinking back down onto the bed.
“Maybe, just maybe, I can smuggle you through the Heavens and into Lumbridge,” said Alder, still pondering the thought. Then he said, *I*ll do it.”
Zoë hugged Alder Goldrider, and he hugged her back. Then they each leapt into the fireplace and dissolved into thin air.

Heaven was a dream. It looked more like an illusion. Even so, it was a wonder beyond belief.
The trees were elegantly grown. Even the leaves looked like they contained the skill that had been used to forge a Dragon Long sword.
Alder quietly led them through the dreamy forest and past every tree imaginable. Finally, they stopped at a cave.
“It leads to Lumbridge. You’ll appear in the graveyard. Go in the house; go down the hole in the ground. Good luck.”
“Thanks,” said Zoë, leaping into the portal.
“Thank you deeply. You have done us a great honour this day,” praised Dustin and then followed Zoë’s jump.
A moment or two after they had gone, a voice said, “You did the right thing.” And then an old man, but still elegant and graceful, appeared out of the air.
“I hope you are right, Saradomin,” said Alder Goldrider, and the two started back to the castle of Heaven.

Zoë and Dustin landed on the wet grass the rain had drenched. They leapt to their feet hastily and ran through the door. Oddly, it was broken down. There, in the ground, lay a hole.
“After you,” motioned Zoë.
“Fine,” said Dustin, jumping down the hole.

The ropes around Dallion’s hand had been cut. Trey saw it that, if Dallion tried to escape or fight, he wouldn’t stand a chance. The boy knew it to be true, and hoped for a miracle. But he knew it wouldn’t be true.
‘Maybe Celtic and Robby will come for me,’ thought Dallion ridiculously. He would have laughed at the sudden appearance of the two fugitives.
Remembering the clues, Dallion knew they had passed through the air above ground. They had gone under the earth, so two elements were passed. And then Dallion gasped at what he saw.
They were in a large cavern. At the bottom was a lake of magma. If they fell, their doom would be unavoidable.
Flames rose out of the air, licking the roof and any points around them. They were hot beasts, their tongues burning all in their path.
A bridge led over the lake. Dallion was forced to go first, being the prisoner. The body guards went after Dallion, then went Trey. Last came Ratter.
It was so strange how the jerk had once been a total mean idiot who took orders from no one, but now was obeying this old man, who wasn’t Drevious Steel. Dallion had thought Trey was only polite to his master. Apparently, he was wrong.
For a thousand years, this bridge had been in the scorching heat. Dallion stayed on only his toes, carefully placing his feet on another plank of wood.
“Careful,” warned Dallion. “These planks won’t hold that much weight.”
Fear swelled inside Dallion like a bruise. One false move and everything was lost.
After ten minutes or so of endless walking, Dallion managed to jump the last few feet and land on solid ground.
Everyone safely crossed without problems, and they continued further down the vault. Into another dark tunnel where corpses lay and bugs were eating the remains. Finally, they passed into another cavern.
The roof and the walls were tinted with blue and droplets of rain splattered into the lake of water below, smashing it and creating expanding pools.

“What do you suppose we do next?” asked Dallion, confused.
“Swim to the bottom?” suggested Trey.
“I suppose I’ll go first,” offered Dallion, diving into the fresh water. It was the first swim he had taken in weeks.
When Dallion hit the water, Trey said, “I would have made him do it anyway.” And he stared back down into the depths.
Dallion could see crystal clear through the water. His vision was, surprisingly, not funny. No doubt the water was enchanted. But his breathing was as normal as ever.
Dallion wanted to stay in the water forever. It was an enchantment; you could see the world for what it was down here. But he would have to press on.
A cave mouth was clearly seen at the bottom of the lake. Dallion swam towards it and looked through it. All he saw was dark walls, and then a light at the end of the tunnel.
Dallion broke the surface and called to Trey, “There’s a cave! We’ll have to leave Ratter behind!”
Trey plunged into the water with the other men. Bubbles exploded from their mouths as Dallion led them through the cave. The reached the tunnel’s end with haste, and found themselves on a platform.

Trey plunged into the water with the other men. Bubbles exploded from their mouths as Dallion led them through the cave. The reached the tunnel’s end with haste, and found themselves on a platform.
They were in an icy cavern. The sharp smell decorated the air and the scene. A slippery steep staircase led up to yet another platform. As always, Dallion went first and Trey went last.
They were in a skating area. They would have to slide across it. Easy. But yet not so.
It was fine for a few moments. But then five arrows leapt at Dallion from the walls.
Dallion rolled forward as spikes burst from the ice, smashing to fragments where Dallion had been standing a heartbeat before.
“It’s a trap!” shouted Dallion to Trey, and he nodded slightly. Dallion leapt to the side, avoiding more spikes striking out of the solid ground.
He hopped back a little to dodge arrows rain down from above him. He then rolled forward as two identical hammers smashed into each other. Had Dallion not moved, he would be as flat as one of his Mother’s pancakes.
He was at the end of the rink. Then he burst out laughing and shouted at Trey, “I made it!” He exploded into tears of laughter, and Trey and his men moved along the path Dallion had created. All the traps had been triggered, so they could peacefully crossed across the rink.
The hammers retracted and let the men through. Trey went last as always... luckily.

The hammers then rammed back into each other, crushing the three men except Trey. He gasped in horror as the hammers retracted and he looked at the crumpled, now deformed body of his fallen comrades. Trey, choking back tears, leapt for his life across the hammers. They slightly nipped the back of his shirt and cut it off.
“Oh Zamorak! What did I do to deserve this?” Trey screamed to his god.
“On the bright side,” said Dallion, trying to cool the jerk’s anger, “we have reached the end of the riddle.
“Yes,” said Trey. “It appears we have.” He then looked Dallion in the eyes. They were as solid and as cold as the ice they had just crossed. *That means I no longer have use for you.” Trey then drew his runite long sword.
Dallion, with fast paced thinking, broke into a sprint through the last tunnel. Trey followed, racing off in murderous pursuit.

Athera Goldrider was amazed at how quickly Tathral had recovered. His wounds had almost sealed up and he was walking again.
They had been in the outskirts for at least two days, and now Athera knew this man was a Maringol. She herself, like her former husband, had been a Maringol. They both new each other’s identity now, and had discussed it.
*It appears the Maringol still has an act to play for a few more hours,” boomed a deep, solid and commanding voice.
Tathral drew his sword. “Who are you?” he demanded.
Then, out of the sky, a man floated down to the frosted grass.
Athera*s eyes were wide with shock. “Alder?” she asked.
“Yes, Athera. Ok, as much as I’d like to hold you in my arms, there is no time. The Legacy of the Three Kings has been uncovered by the villain of the age, and he might conquer our land. You must make haste to Lumbridge. You have but a few hours. In the house in the graveyard, the ground has a trap door in it. That is the treasure vault. Hurry, Athera and Tathral. I’ll be watching and smiling upon you both.” He then vanished out of thin air.
“What was that?” asked Tathral after a few minutes.
“The true words of my husband,” replied Athera. “C’mon!”

» Chapter Ten -- Showdown «
Dallion looked around. No doubt this place of gold, silver, bronze, iron, steel, mithril, adamant, runite and dragon.
And there was. Dallion grabbed a rusty runite long sword from the pile of gold, slashing a murderous arc at Trey’s throat.
Trey ducked and rolled to the side, slashing upwards to try and strike Dallion’s jaw.
Dallion leapt to the side and thrust his sword at Trey’s heart. Trey leapt to the side again and then their swords were locked together.
Dallion was already sweating. He had never actually fought close combat before. He had fought goblins with a dagger and Trey with a dagger as well, but that was for reputation. This was for life.
Dallion ripped the lock upwards in the same steps of Tregal Goldrider. He then jabbed Trey in the face with his fist and then kicked him in the gut. Trey fell to the ground and landed on the sharp metal of the fortune.
Dallion slashed downwards, trying to slash Trey in half. Trey rolled to the side and kicked Dallion in the back of the leg. Dallion howled in pain and collapsed to the floor. As he did so, he rolled forward and into a combat stance once again.
Trey licked his lips, and once again he tasted the blood of defeat. *It appears I have underestimated you, Dallion Goldrider.”
Then, green flame surrounded Trey and a few other of his men surrounded him. An arrow struck the hilt of Dallion’s sword, sending it soaring through the air. Dallion desperately looked around for another weapon, but to no avail.
Then, from out of the air again, two blue jets of flame appeared and there were two men. Alder Goldrider and what Dallion could not believe. He hadn’t descended down from the Heavens in over ten thousand years. It was Saradomin.
