You need a hug! :D *hugs*

(Hope you don't mind :P I know some people do.)

I don't think you can be blamed solely for that, really. The Out Reach department wasn't that well designed in itself (due to myself being the main guy having to think about all the details of the whole guild), and you have a team of about one staff member, including yourself. So it is to be expected that what you can do is limited.

However, now, I think I would simply focus your attention on perhaps browsing through the forums, or read our member's stories, whichever you feel best. Or would you like me to put up titles for you to browse?

I don't mind hugs as long as they aren't too close ;)

I don't think that you are to blame =) I do think that it is due to me mostly. It must have been hard for you create the whole guild, I should have done more to help with the burden. I've been busy the past weeks with mid-terms and the such, but it should slow down for the next 2-3 weeks. I should be able to help more =)

Don't we already have an "In-reach Department"? Anyways, I've been thinking about creating a thread that should help me with my job. It would be called "Readers for Grabs". Basically it would a place where people could post the QFC to their story and where I and members of the Guild would read them. The Novelist Guild would of course be the "sponsor" of the thread. What do you think?

I have no idea what that means. Hug by definition already implies physical contact.

Heh, if you're busy, it can't be helped. Many people I'm sure have a lot more time yet they didn't show up, so your dedication is admirable. I was just trying to get things going again.

I can't remember anything about an In-reach department? The Activity Points system and the exchange took care of that, I think. The thread sounds like a good idea. If it could be made part of the TNG it might help spread the word, and the Out Reach programme can be given its legitimate place, and have some weight to them.

However, two problems I see might arise:

1) It will ultimately fail if it's only maintained by you. We need active Out Reach members about checking this thread and reading constantly. If you find yourself alone, you may be overloaded with work.

2) Some people might not bother even that. Some of them shy away from this guild, their fear sometimes came from ignorance, thinking us as snobbish individuals. They might not benefit as they are too scared to post their QFC*. What I think is, while it certainly makes the department's job easier, the role of going 'out there' to do home visits shouldn't be neglected. A bit like people knocking on someone else's door to preach and spread the good news, really :P - not waiting for someone to come to church.

Am I making any sense?

Yes, but not too much for too long, if you understand what I mean.

You're probably right, I shouldn't blame myself for not spending enough time on an online game... =D

I don't think there ever was such a thing as an in-reach department, but you did mention it once; when I had endorsed your stories. You told me that my job was to promote "outsider's" stories, not those within our guild, or else that would be an in-reach department =P

The sole purposes of creating that thread would be to help the Out-Reach Department, Endorse the Guild, and help authors get more viewers.

Response to 1: That is something that I do fear, to launch myself out there at the mercy of all of the authors, without help from anyone from the Guild. I'm sure that some people (Caydock and You) would check the thread from time to time, but other than that I'm afraid I would alone to run it. Unless I find willing and active members, I don't think it will work as well as it is intended to.

Response to 2: You are making perfect sense, I had just not thought of it that way. Thanks for doing so! =P I had just though that if people really cared about their stories, they should go out of their ways to promote it. But I can see now how some of them are too shy or lack confidence to do so. It's kind of like leading a baby out of his baby stroller so that he can start walking on his own; the Guild in some sort does this exactly. It helps author mature (In some way...) and gain confidence in their writing skills.

Yes, outsider's stories, you promote those. You read them, you say hi, you be their friends.

And I'm not really in the Out-Reach department. I'm the guild admin, and already got my hands full, so I can't really promise to be of help. Why don't you find others and talk to them about it?

And why not make it under TNG? :O

Well, maybe it's just we're seeing two different things, but...

A thread of your own, 'Readers for Grabs' as an independent establishment with references to the guild doesn't really compel our staff members to take part.

If it is to be made a part of TNG, like the Reviewing Course and the old contest thread which is separate but still a part of the guild, it compels the staff to help out more.

That's basically what I'm saying. Feel free to disagree.
