All over the lands of RuneScape, tales are spun of the great Champions of the four Great Games: Castle Wars, Duel Arena, The Agility Arena, and the Wilderness. The champion of a Game is the champion of the world. Kings and Emperors, and even some minor Gods bow down to the winners.
Obviously, this wasn't without reason; Castle Wars, the great Game of the far west, requires incredible teamwork, strategy, and fighting skills. Then, far off in the caves of Karamja, the Agility Arena is full of nefarious surprises and sinister setbacks, so only the strongest and most agile warriors can tame the great underground Arena.
Even farther east, rising up out of the sand, lies the legendary Duel arena, where the amount of money and the weapons brought is the key to Championhood. Only the luckiest and most sly of all can rise to the title of Champion.
And finally, the Wilderness, the massive northern plain dominated by murderers, thieves, and warriors looking for a good fight. A place only spoken of by most folk in hushed whispers, the terrifying expanse holds dragons, rockslides, monsters, lava, spiders, pitfalls, cages, ruins, teleportation grids, and many more horrors that only the quickest, strongest, and most overall skilled warrior in the whole world can become Champion.
The Champions of all the Games are treated better than royalty. Every city has a special palace just for them; soldiers are specially trained better than even royal guards to protect them; all the food, drink, and "pleasureable company" they get is absolutely delicious, the people love them almost more than their kings, and overall, they get the best possible treatment.
So obviously you can see how high the stakes are in these games. And they are for real; to die in the games means that you are dead for real.
So, that said, we dive into the first character of our story: Duel Arena Champion, Drake Karloch, or just simply "Drake."
