The tunnel I was walking through eventually led to a larger cavern, where other tunnels branched out from. I got down on my knees and stayed within the shadows, and watched numerous workers and juvenite vampyres pass through. At the center of this cavern was a ladder going up, and I knew that had to be my escape.

I waited, waited, and waited some more. The juvenate guarding the ladder would not move an inch. I was truly surprised that nobody had even came in or out of the tunnel I was standing in the entrance of, though I knew that at any time, somebody could. I wasn't about to get comfortable there.

I concentrated on the faces of people that passed, as best as I could. I was still a bit dizzy, and waves of nausea came and went. One worker that passed by about ten meters from me seemed to be Lemmy.

I wasn't sure that it could have been, as I remembered seeing him get chewed on by Vyrewatch. I called out Lemmy's name, not too loud, but just loud enough for him to have heard from where he was standing. He stopped for a moment, and turned in all directions. I called his name again.

"Lemmy..!" He looked to where I was, and began speed-walking towards me cautiously. He was twice as colorless as he was before, and had multiple puncture-marks on his throat. It was more than I could count.

"Wha'... Who's there?" he said lowly, just at the mouth of the tunnel.

"Selias.. It's me, Selias... Come over here..!" I told, somewhat having trouble speaking with my mouth dry as dirt. He shambled his way over to me, and hid in the darkness as well.

"I don' rememb-.. Remember seein' ye so pale..." he forced out.

"I know, Lem'.. I've gotta get up that ladder and continue searching for the Myreque. That's what's important right now, not my blood." I waited for his response, but at first, he just gave me a solemn look of inner anguish.

"Selias... I ain't gonna last.. I crumbl' to my knees er'*y time they try ta' make me mine.. I'm going to die down here," he began explaining to me. "But, you.. You've gotta reason to live. You have yer' purpose." I had a good idea of what he was trying to tell me, but I didn't want to believe it.

"What are you about to do? Lemmy?"

He smiled at me and put his right hand on my shoulder, and held firmly for a long couple of seconds, then stood. He turned his head towards the juvenate guarding the ladder, and started walking towards it, with a slight shuffle in his step.

It didn't seem to notice him at first, but about halfway to it, he stopped, picked up a large rock, and chucked it at the vampyre. It landed right under its left ear on its neck-shoulder area, and it let out a stifled choke and gurgle.

As it fell back against the ladder and recovered, it drew its attention to Lemmy, who was now running across the cavern to the opposite end from where I was. Every worker had stopped and watched in awe, while other juvenate guards joined their comrade in the oncoming human organ picnic.

I nearly stopped breathing as Lemmy was thrown to the rocks and dirt, and was almost instantly fleshed and torn apart. Every vampyre that participated had a different piece of Lemmy, and all were biting away ferociously. I sprinted to the ladder as hastily as I could.

With how fast my heart was pounding against my ribcage, I could have had a heart attack and not even known it happened. I raised up, and pushed down my feet, almost with a rhythm as I climbed up the ladder. There was no hatch above blocking my exit, but it was a fairly high ladder. It felt as if it took me an hour to reach the top.

The whole way up, I could hear the sickening sounds of blood splashing against the ground and flesh being pulled apart sloppily. I tried not to think about it. There were more guards above, but I worked to pretend that I wasn't horrified and disgusted at the same time.

"Hold it, food-bag," one guard said as I emerged. There were two, both to the left of where I was looking when I came up. "What are you doing coming back up here? Shouldn't you be in the mines?"

"I-I-I... I uhm... I turned in my da-.. Daeyalt ore to th-, the guards. They told me I-, I could go..." I stuttered uncontrollably. I was incredibly nervous and could not keep a leash on my increasing anxiety. The guards didn't seem to buy my story.

"Wellll, then I'm sure the overseers below would agree, if I went down now and asked.." He sent a smirk, and walked past me to the ladder.

As he went down, the other guard walked next to the hole and watched his companion's descent. Only for a moment, but a moment was all I required. I put both hands on his shoulders and shoved him into the hole, clearly he had been unprepared. He let out a shriek and kept screaming until he hit the ground.

His neck must have snapped completely, because when he landed, I heard a very loud crack, and his cries ended remarkably sudden. I quickly shut the hatch to the hole, which had been left open prior. I slid the bolt, and dashed away back to the ghettos.

I didn't pay much mind to where I was going, all I cared about was getting as far from the mines as possible. I ran mostly in a straight line, and found myself in a similar situation that I was in the first night I arrived in Meiyerditch.

Only, this time, I didn't have nearly as much energy or strength to run for very long. By now, I was working solely through my own adrenaline, and that wouldn't last much longer. The familiar feeling of watching eyes returned as I trampled the dirt roads of the shanty towns.

I began gasping for air and feeling a strong cramp rising in my abdomen. I had to stop for a breather. I took to the first alleyway that I spotted, and ducked down.
My whole body was in a grand amount of pain; My lungs and throat burned from dryness and demand for more oxygen, my stomache now felt like it was being tightened by a corset, and my legs were beginning to tense up and stiffen.

Tears streamed down either side of my face as I looked up to the night sky and thanked Saradomin for giving me a fighting chance to survive, and I prayed that he may have mercy on Lemmy's poor soul. I closed my eyes.

---

A leather-gloved hand squeezed my mouth as I was suddenly brought back to awareness. My eyes struggled adjust to the dark, and to focus on the figure in front of me. However, it was encased in blackness, just like everything else had been in the alleyway.

"Shh..." I heard. It was a male's voice. "We do not have a lot of time. Stay close , and stay quiet . Otherwise, I will leave you behind to the Vyrewatch. This is not debatable."

I said nothing in return, and allowed for the person to remove their hand from my face and let me stand. I didn't feel as nauseous as I had before, but now both my hunger and thirst were intense, and I was more fatigued than earlier.
I didn't even know how much time had passed since I fell asleep, but the moon was no longer visible in the sky, which meant that daylight would break soon.

The figure stepped out of the shadows, allowing for me to determine features a little more easily. I knew it was a Myreque member, the hooded cloak was a dead giveaway. 'What is with these guys and wearing hoods?'

He had green rolled-up trousers of a rough burlap-type material, shin-high leather boots, which appeared quite worn, and both his cloak and long, thick-sleeved shirt were a faded brown. Facial features were not visible in any way.
In one hand, though, was a compact crossbow with what appeared to be silver or steel bolts loaded into it.

He started off in a light jog, down the same direction I was headed before. I followed suit, and made sure to keep only a few feet between us. I couldn't see where we were going, all I knew is that we made many turns and went down numerous narrow paths. However, it did not take very long, to my surprise, to arrive at our apparent destination.

The man approached the door to a building placed right to the side of one of the city walls. Something about the building was different than the others around it, but I couldn't quite put my finger on what that difference was. He looked back to me one time, and then pushed open the door. He waited for me to enter, then quickly shut it.

"What was that ? How did you even know where I was?!" I questioned him, quite confused.

"Shut your mouth." he said sternly. His voice sounded deeper than it had before, and I started to notice that he paid attention to enunciating his words, despite his Morytanian dialect.

I sighed through my nose and did as I was told. His heavy footsteps trailed along the floors in the dark house to a room adjacent to my then current position. I let him enter the room first before I followed him in. I could hear him using some kind of mechanism as I entered, and when I did, saw him pull open a trapdoor.

"Get inside." he ordered.

I approached the space that the trapdoor revealed, to see a ladder. I bent down and lowered my legs into the hole, finding the rungs to place my feet on, and climbed lower into a lit underground area. When I got to the bottom, I remained idle until the other man had come down as well.
When he did, he removed his hood, and studied my facial features. I did the same.

He didn't have much tone to his skin, he had curly brown hair, and was clean-shaven. He seemed more well-fed than the other citizens of Meiyerditch, though. He began speaking before I could say or do anything else.

"I am Lucius Lombardo. I found you because I was tasked with going to the mines to recover Delmar, our other informant. I watched you escape from the mine and throw that vampyre down the hole, and followed you. You matched the description of the outsider we were told would be arriving. I would have completed my assignment, had you not drawn so much attention to yourself again . Delmar could still be-" I cut him off to tell him of Delmar's fate.

"Delmar is dead," I told him, with no emotion in my voice. "The Vyrewatch ripped out his throat and left him in the mines to die." Lucius went silent for a short moment before continuing.

"I see. They must have placed you with him in the mine shaft they send suspected Myreque associates to. It doesn't matter now. Delmar is not the only person we have lost recently, and we don't have time to grieve. The Vyrewatch are now most likely going to be active more than ever, after your recent excursions. They know who you are and they are searching for you. It is a good time for you to find us, indeed. Come now."

Aha! More to read!

I am catching up now.

Alright, I'm caught up. Poor Lemmy, I thought he had died during the ambush, was happy to see him alive in the mines only to see him die again! Also, I'm still not completely clear as to why he's in Meiyerditch. Is it for his family? Or something else? If it's a spoiler don't tell me.

Anyway, keep up the good work. So far your writing style and plot have been very captivating and I'm definitely still reading. My only complaint would be you don't include descriptions that would help someone who isn't familiar with Runescape lore. You can do this quickly and easily just by tacking on a short little description with commas.

Waiting for more!

Yeah, it'd spoil the story if I gave it away now. I'm trying to shoot hints every now and then with Selias' thoughts at why he's there.

Apologies for the whole lore issue, I'm all too familiar with Meiyerditch lore from the quests in-game and assumed that most other people have a basic idea of what it is.

Ah good, I thought you were dropping hints but I was afraid I had missed something important! Well keep it up, I am intrigued.

Don't worry about the lore issue; I understand everything fine, and it is a Runescape Story Forum after all.
