Chapter One: Witchcraft
Witchcraft.
The word slid through the girl's mind like tapeworm. It gave her a little chuckle as a smile played delicately on her lips; tonight, Varrock belonged to her.
She flipped carefully through the thin, delicate pages of the book labeled Veneficius. Inside the pages, there were spells spilled like sweet, intoxicating nectar, waiting for someone to take a nibble. The girl, Meretrix, wasn't taking a nibble, however; she was taking a large bite.
Meretrix reached the page she was searching for. Upon it, a sloppy scribble of a demon with goat horns made of shadow and a body of blackness so pure no features could be distinguished besides two piercing yellow eyes. The girl read the description of the demon's abilities:
"Nonsol is an extremely powerful demon of the highest level. Nonsol has the powers of darkness and shadow, able to make a whole city encased in darkness as well as the ability to suck a human soul right out of a body. Nonsol's signature power is to transform into the appearance of his last victim, allowing him to go undetected for extended periods of time. Do not attempt to summon."
Meretrix was your average witchcraft practitioner, living deep in the slums of Varrock, unkown to all. Summoning Nonsol and taking over Varrock would make her one of the most famous witches to ever live. She grinned slyly at the thought.
Meretrix pushed her auburn hair out of her eyes as she crouched on the ground, drawing an upside down pentagram. She finished the pentagram with a sloppy circle, making it an upside down pentacle. Meretrix began placing candles along the edges of the circle along the points of the pentagram: a blue, or water candle at the first point, green and yellow candles along the wings of the pentacle, and red and white candles at the legs of the pentacle. In the pentagon inside the pentagram, she placed black candles.

In the middle of it all, she stood, holding her book, Veneficius, in her hands and began chanting the spell to summon Nonsol.
"Umbra mens,
Atrum cur,
Penuria animus,
Ego voco vos,
Sic haud solis mos sceptrum."
Meretrix's heart slammed against her chest in an icy fire as she saw the being in which she had summoned. It was like the picture on the page, but much more..vivid. She held her breath as she watched the beast become aware of its surroundings.
"I am M-Meretrix, your m-master. I want you to, to destroy the city of Varrock and make me queen instead. C-can you do that?"
The demoned bellowed a low chuckle.
"Silly girl, I can do much more than that." Nonsol said in a frighteningly inhuman voice. Meretrix nodded, wiping sweat off her brow.
Nonsol looked at the protective circle Meretrix had drawn moments earlier. It was crooked and bended, and in two places slightly broken. These places were very small and only Nonsol could see them in the room. He lurched forward, stepping into and breaking the protection of the circle.
"How did y-" Meretrix stammered. Nonsol's fingers caressed the girl's chin as he whispered in her ear.
"Shhh. Don't try to save yourself, the circle is complete."
Nonsol gave her one last grin, assuring her that he would gladly destroy Varrock, but decided he did not wish to have her as master. Nonsol opened is mouth, revealing a set of starking white teeth as he ripped her jugular out of her neck, splattering everywhere.
He let her body fall to the ground as he absorbed Meretrix's soul. Nonsol then transformed into Meretrix, successfully hiding his identity.
He gave one last shallow grin as he slammed the rickety door behind him, ready to see Varrock hold its colors in the face of Nonsol.

Chapter Two: Girl in the Fire
Two women, one with bright, light green eyes and the other with dark, subtle green eyes, sat across from one another with a card deck in the midde.
"Do you want me to deal you another card, Unox?" Aeraie, the girl with light green eyes, asked. Unox looked at her cards, pondering the decision.
"Yeah, sure. Hit me up with another," Unox responded. Aeraie flipped her a card: an eight of Spades.
"Damn," Unox said, "That's a foil for me. I'm at 24. You?"
"19."
With Aeraie's reply, Unox sighed, sliding Aeraie a few dull gold coins.
"Another round?" Unox said. Aeraie looked up.
"Why hasn't the sun risen? It should've been up half an hour ago. I know we finished our border patrol via Commander Khan's request early, but still..." Aeraie trailed off.
"Stop it. You're just being paranoid. The sun rises every day. You need to relax. Seriously," Unox replied, giving Aeraie one of her looks.
"I'm going to check it out, all right? Maybe one of the guards or citizens or something feels the same way. You stay here and tell Commander Khan if I'm not back by the time he wakes up, okay?" Aeraie said, rising off the ground, shaking the dirt off her chaps.
Unox rolled her eyes. "Fine. But you better be back here by the time the Commander gets here, you hear?"
Aeraie chuckled, taking her Seercull off her back and into her left hand. She began to walk away, into the slums of Varrock.
"And what happens if I'm not?" She called over her shoulder.
"I'll..lick you!" Unox said, making her hands into a funnel around her mouth to be louder. Aeraie simply laughed and continued walking.
Turning hastily around the corner, Aeraie almost bumped right into an old friend of hers: Wrool.
"Wha? Oh, hey Aeraie. You know the Guards have city patrols, right?" Wrool said.

"Yeah, I know. Unox and I just got off a Ranger's border patrol and have been waiting for Commander Khan to show up," Aeraie replied. She brushed her hair out of her face as she admired Wrool's dark red hair.
"I see. Why are you here, though? The slums aren't the place to be at night, you know."
"Yeah, that's the issue. Why the hell is it still night time? The sun should've risen 45 minutes ago. Yet the sky is so black, it might as well be midnight," Aeraie said.
"Hmm. Interesting theory you've got there. I'll keep an eye out. Meet up outside the East Bank in an hour if the sun still hasn't risen?" Wrool asked.
"Sure." With that, Aeraie turned her heel and strode past Wrool, further into the slums of Varrock.
Outside a creaky, small old house, Aeraie saw a young woman with dark hair and dark eyes standing outside with an emotionless expression. Trying to be a good Ranger, Aeraie began to warn the girl.
"These streets aren't ones to be alone in at this hour, especially with the sun being a little late on rising today. You should really get back ins-"
Aeraie was cut short by the girl's sudden advancement. The girl with dark hair and dark eyes made a horrific sound that was as if a thousand souls screamed for relase into a vaccum in which no sound resided in. A smoky blackness rose out of the girl's lungs, plaguing Aeraie. As Aeraie fell to the ground, she faded into the blackness.
Then the girl with dark hair and dark eyes dragged Aeraie's body into a pile of splintering wooden planks, setting them alight.
"Girl in the Fire..." said a raspy, inhuman voice coming from the dark girl's body, "Vale. Goodbye...."
The girl vanished as Aeraie helplessly began to burn as the Girl in the Fire.

Chapter Three: Tarantula
Bel Iblis could be a very cranky man. This morning was no exception. He woke to the sound of a crackling fire outside. Bel flared his nostrils angrily as he stepped out of bed, combing his hand through his long black hair. He quickly marched to the doorway to catch the wrongdoers in the act.
"Hey! You kids shouldn't be...what in the world?" Bel yelled, his voice fading to little more than a whisper towards the end of his sentence. In the fire, he spotted what appeared to be a leg.
Bel dashed to the crime scene, pulling the leg out of the fire, revealing a girl with long, ashy blonde hair. She was knocked out cold, but wearing the famous Ranger's armour. Picking her up with both hands, Bel cradled her burnt body as he rushed inside, slamming the door shut behind him. He lay the damaged girl on his bed and then continued to pace around the room before running to the door, swinging it open.
Bel saw the faded outline of someone walking in the street.
"You! Who're you? I need help!" Bel called.
"Name's Erad. Not muchuva helper, honestly," the man, Erad, responded.
"A girl is dying in there. Find the Commander of the Rangers and get the Prince. Go," Bel bit. Erad simply bowed, running north, towards the Palace. Bel headed back inside, treating the girl's wounds alone.
Erad ran right past the back entrance of the Blue Moon Inn, spotting someone in a Ranger uniform.
"Hey! You! Go get Commander Khan and tell him to go to the second house on the left! A Ranger is dying in there!" Erad shouted. The Ranger gave him an estranged look.
"It ish Cap'n Sharlark to you, shir. Ashk again nicer next time, you hear? Whats* the Ranger looksh like?" Captain Sharlark responded.
"Unno. Didn't see her. The guy was pretty concerned though, so she's either just about dead or really hot. Or both," Erad responded, contemplating the issue.

"She? And you shay she's prettay? **** to be Aeraie. Or Unox. Nawh, Aeraie. She's a good friend, sho I'll go fhetch Commander Khan," Sharlark said.
"Thanks," Erad responded. He ran north once again, this time heading straight for the palace.
~Them Rangers and their beer,~ Erad thought, rolling his eyes. He ran on.
As Erad was running, he thought to himself that since the girl was dying, perhaps he should get a priest to tend to her injuries or bless her when she died. No time, though.
That's when Erad's body slammed into another man. Erad stumbled backwards, apologizing profusely. The man blew his green hair our of his eyes, staring down Erad.
"Watch it," the green haired man said.
"Hey, actually, sorry, but can you get a priest and bring him to the slums, to the second house on the left after you pass the bar? There's a Ranger dying from some weird fire, and I don't want her body going unblessed. What's your name, by the way?"
"Brand. And sure. I'll be there in a bit. If this is a set up, though.."
"I swear it isn't. Please, I'm begging you,' Erad interrupted.
"All right, all right, I'm going to the chapel now," Brand breathed.
"Thank you!" Erad dashed away, heading towards and into the palace.
Bel Iblis, although cranky, was very caring. The girl was just coming to, her dazed green eyes piercing into Bel. She coughed, wheezing for air. He handed her a glass of water as a drunken man barreled through the door. Following him was the burly Commander Khan.
Khan clasped his hands together, bewildered. "Aeraie!" He said, concerned.
Seconds later, Cardinal Lost stepped through the door in his flowing Saradomin robes. Following him was a strange man with green hair.

"Cardinal! Good to see you. Please, please, attend to Captain Aeraie," Commander Khan said. Speechless, Bel backed away, letting Lost find Aeraie. As he attended to Aeraie, casting various healing spells upon her and feeding her special Saradomin, Aeraie became acutely aware of her surroundings. Bel explained to Commander Khan, Captain Sharlark, and the green haired man who said his name was Brand about how he found Aeraie. Brand opened his mouth to speak about Erad when Erad himself glided through the door.
"Speak of the devil," Brand muttered. Bel quickly greeted Erad, thanking him. Prince Seraph walked through the door calmly into the now very crowded house.
"What in Armadyl's name is going on here?" Prince Seraph questioned. Bel and Commander Khan quickly explained. The prince turned to Aeraie.
"Can you explain what happened, Captain Aeraie?" He asked.
Aeraie coughed. "Sun...not risen. Woman...attacked. With darkness. Threw...me...into fire. She lit. Poofed ..away. No sun...and woman...must..connected. I think," Aeraie said in bits and pieces, her voice broken up. The prince looked at her with a confused expression.
"This woman..what did she look like?" He asked.
"Like...a..a..black tarantula. She...dark hair...black eyes...small frame...smelled...like a...like a witch," Aeraie moaned.
The prince called over Commander Khan to discuss what their next move was. Meanwhile, Bel and Lost tended to Aeraie while Brand, Sharlark, and Erad made small talk.
"How exactly does someone smell like a witch?" Erad pondered.
"Unno. I did a witch once. Wash a looong time ago, dough," Sharlark commented. Brand rolled his eyes at Sharlark.
"No one wants to hear about your *** life, Sharlark. And Erad, probably the smell of candles and incense or something. I dunno," Brand responded.
As Erad nodded his head in agreement, Commander Khan announced to the group. "We have a plan," he said.

Chapter Five: Watercolor
A silence shimmered over the room as the last syllables of Dally's words echoed around the room.
"Well?" Brand said.
"We're going to split up. Into groups of three. And patrol looking for this figure. Aeraie," Dally said, turning, "What did she look like?"
Aeraie coughed, dazed. "Dark hair...slim..average height...and...eyes were...black. Totally....black."
Dally gave Aeraie a bewildered look before turning back to the group, clasping her hands together. "Well, you heard her. Now how to split these groups up? Well, Lost, you need to stay with Aeraie to heal her. I can lead a party and so can the Prince. Looks like we're short on numbers, though," Dally said.
"Unox.." Aeraie coughed.
"Ah, yes, Unox. She can join us. She'll be in my group, since she is a Ranger. Erad, you will also be in my group. That's one group. I personally know Upper Varrock the best, so that's where my group will patrol. Prince Seraph knows the Palace and the Square the best, so he can take his group once we've sorted all of this out up there," Dally said.
Erad nodded, agreeing. Aeraie managed to push another breath out of her lips. "Wrool. I
...passed her...coming."
"Wrool is a great guard. Good suggestion, Aeraie," Dally responded.
"There's a royal guard I know will be up at this hour. Woof. He's my mother's guard, but he would be a great person to head one of the parties. He's lived her all his life," Prince Seraph commented.
Dally nodded. "Erad, since you were so good last time, could you please fetch Woof, Unox, and Wrool? Woof is in the palace, Wrool is walking around somewhere, and Unox should be at the South Gates."
"Sure," Erad responded, running out the door. And so the wait began.
****
Wrool was the first to return. It seemed Wrool had brought someone with her: the Guard Sergeant Spidy. Dally quickly briefed them on the situation at hand.

"Right. So whose group do you wish for us to be in?" Spidy asked. But before Dally could respond, the Prince interrupted.
"They can be in my group. I always feel safer with a few guards, even if they aren't my guards," Seraph chuckled. The two guards quickly nodded in approval.
"Sure," Dally said, "That leaves Woof with Sharlark, Brand, and Bel. That's four. One of you please stay with Lost and Aeraie."
"I would like to stay with Aeraie, as this is my house," Bel quickly replied.
"All right then. Brand, Sharlark, are you both fine with Woof?" Dally said.
"I gu-" Brand was cut off.
"Cap'n Sharlark to yah, Commandader. I hash*'* met Woof afore, but good golly I guess it works. Ishn't that right, Rand?" Sharlark interrupted. Brand rolled his eyes.
"Brand. My name isn't Rand, it's Brand. Call me Rand again and you'll regret it, you hear?" Brand angrily responded.
"Washever you shay, Rand," Sharlark said.
"Why I oughta-"
"Brand, no. Don't waste your energy," Dally interrupted. Just then, Unox strolled in.
"Hello Commander, hello Captains," she said, "Erad already told me what's going on. I would be happy to help."
"Great, Unox. We'll leave as soon as- speak of the devil, you two are back," Dally said, commenting on Erad and Woof's arrival.
"Erad has already informed me of the issue. If my patrol is ready, I'm ready," Woof said.
"I'm ready," Brand said. They turned to Sharlark, mouth gaping, drool flowing steadily out. Then Sharlark smacked his lips and said,
"You ish so prettay, Woofsies. Reminds me of a guy I ushed to know. Pedobear, hish name was. What a bootiful man.." Sharlark drifted off. Brand rolled his eyes again at Sharlark, in disbelief that he had to patrol with him.
"Let's just get this over with," Brand said. Others quickly nodded, and before he could say another word, Dally and Seraph's groups were out the door.
"So I guess we have the slums," Woof said, "Follow me." He walked out the door.

"Ooh, goodie. The bar ish in the shlums. Maybe I can buy you a nicsh cooold beer, Woofsies," Sharlark said drunkenly as he shut the door behind him, walking out into the slums with Woof and Brand.
"Is this some sort of drunken crush? And don't call me Woofsies," Woof said.
"Druuunken crush? No shilly, this ish for real. I want to marry you, Woofsies. I want to **** your babies. I want to feel your-"
"Oh my god you drunken maniac! Shut the hell up, Sharlark," Brand moaned.
"It's Cap'n-"
"No one cares," Brand responded.
Woof was trying to keep his cool, but had never dealt with a situation such as this. Woof decided to be a bit manipulative.
"If you really love me, Captain Sharlark, you'll be quiet. Okay?" Woof said.
"Okay, Woofsies," Sharlark said, turning to Brand, "This ish what love feels like, Rand!" Sharlark did a little jig. The group continued pacing along through the streets of Varrock like their other fellow patrols did, looking for a girl with black eyes.
Meanwhile, Bel and Lost stayed caring for Aeraie. Lost had, at this point, healed most of her visible surface wounds.
"Hey Bel, you wouldn't mind if I ran off for a short bit and grabbed my staff to bless her injuries, would you?" Lost said.
"Not at all. Go right on ahead," Bel responded.
"Great. In the mean time, I need you to get that black dragonhide off her body. Don't worry, I'm sure she has clothes under it. I need to treat any burns underneath," Lost replied.
"That's not what I'm worried about," Bel mumbled. Lost smiled politely and left the house.
As Bel peeled Aeraie's dragonhide off, he couldn't help but notice a large, black burn on her wrist. It was red and inflamed, hot to the touch. He walked over to his sink, wetting a cold rag for her wound. The door opened behind him.
"Back so soon?" Bel commented. He turned the faucet off and turned around. Standing over Aeraie was a slim women of average height with dark brown hair. Bel dropped the rag, unsheathing his blade.
