Dawn.

The world slowly began to brighten as the golden hue of the sun began to rise above the horizon. The sounds of birds flying high in the air was soon to follow as the world's inhabitants started to awaken and begin the new day. This new arrival caused men and women alike to reach over and break their alarm clocks, causing about two million dollars in damages within a solitary moment. However, this was not the case for one small boy.

Joppi J (no one really knew what the "J" stood for, but no one particularly cared enough to ask, either), a teenager around the age of sixteen, rolled on his side and began to mutter an unknown amount of curses before moving his hand to his alarm, knocking it off and down to the floor.

"Oh, crackers," he murmured as he heard the small machine smash on the carpet.

He sat up in his bed and tossed his fuchsia-covered bedspread to the side before smacking his lips and stretching his arms. Leaning up, he looked down to the floor where his clock was now facing upward and sighed. It was already five o'clock and he knew that he had work to do.

His mind was all muddled as he slipped into his fluffy slippers and began to walk into his bathroom, but, instead, walked straight into the wall. The resounding 'crack!' could be heard all throughout the house as he stumbled backwards and stepped onto his fallen clock, shouting in agony.

"Ah!" he exclaimed, along with a variety of others noises.

Joppi sat on his bed quickly and rubbed his foot, feeling the pain coarse through his veins. As he rubbed, though, he glanced upwards and looked at the strange poster his mother had placed in his room and read the words engraved upon it allowed:

"Missing boy. Aged 12. No reward offered. Often seen with large carrot."

Blinking in confusion, Joppi ignored it and stumbled to his feet before moving back towards the bathroom, this time narrowly avoiding the large wall which stood adjacent to his destination. With a sigh of relief, he then closed the door.

Joppi'* mother trudged her way towards her son’s room, knocking on the door as she shook her head and groaned. Rubbing the sleep from her eyes, “Joppi? Time to get up. I heard you broke your alarm in there - again - so wake up,” she mumbled. She waited for a response, but found none as she stood outside.

“Joppi.”

Her hand crept out of her bathrobe as she opened turned the doorknob and entered the wild territory of a teenage boy’s. The gas mask dangling over her neck was firmly planted on her face as she wafted in filtered air from the gases of expired pizza, stale socks, and dirt-ridden shirts. She hiked her way over the rubble of clothing that was in her way, her slipper coming down hard on a lumpy article of clothing.

“HISS!”

"Jeez!” she yelped as the creature slithered back towards the center of the rubble, three tails whipping out of the clothes before disappearing into the abyss. “Oh, God...” she muttered as she knocked on the bathroom door. “Joppi, get up. Breakfast is going to downstairs soon.”

A grunt was the only audible communication from inside the bathroom.

“Joppi?" she asked, knocking more persistently on the door. “Joppi, open up!”

“I’m busy,” was the teenager’s reply, grunting and panting as a thud resonated from inside. “Oh, jeez!” he cursed. “How am I going to clean that up?!”

Joppi'* father entered just then and said, "When I was his age, I-"

Before he can finish, though, Joppi'* mother cut him off and shrieked, "We all know what you did when you were his age. For God's sake, you still do it!"

The doorknob rattled rather hesitantly, and Joppi opened the door. “Sorry,” he apologized as he brushed through his hair. “Can you buy me a new one?”

“MISTER, I SWEAR-” his mother started, and then stopped. Perplexed, she stuttered, “A new one?! You can’t get a new one!”

“My DDR set is broken again,” he explained, turning towards the game pad on the bathroom floor, smoking and sparking.

“Oh,” was the small reply from his mother. “Oh.”
