With 97 firemaking, I can now sustain 1 damage hits from Wintertodt even with 15 hitpoints and no braziers lit, so I decided to do some combat training to get more health and benefit from higher level food (salmon/tuna) received from Wintertodt, without having to die to get the full heals. Also did the fishing training for less junk anchovies from Wintertodt drops.

Third time 99 firemaking at Wintertodt, third time disappointed with no phoenix or axe drop.

As is the nature of birds of prey, I'm not going to give up without a fight: I'll just keep doing more kills until I get at least one of the two, maybe even both. If I can get the dragon axe this way, I'll be able to just skip DKS completely, since it's not really worth it to get the rings when they can't be stored anywhere, and the brimstone ring gives the combined non-imbued bonuses in one. Although, Jagex has also hinted at possibly nerfing the low hitpoint advantage at Wintertodt in the future, so I might run out of time if it's going to take a very long time here.

Approaching the top 300 ultimate firemakers very quickly now, I'm thinking about also tracking how my firemaking rank progresses, because if Jagex isn't going to give me a pet or an axe, then I might just have to brute-force it: either give me one of those or I'll get my first-ever double-digit permarank in RS. Interestingly, I'm already in the top 300 ultimate Wintertodt kills, because many ultimates do solo games where kills are much slower. I could track that progress too, it's just not as great because you can't really get a permanent rank in it.
