It's Jagex's attempt to create their own game engine. After they got rid of the old reliable Java client effective 18 December 2019, it's literally the only client you can use to play RS3.

It wasn't a big deal to download and install. I run it on a 2018 laptop using Windows 10.

The good news is there are no loading screens when entering a new area. Some of the graphics, like fire and water effects along with distance view, are somewhat improved, but honestly a lot of the graphics look about the same to me as they did in Java.

Then there's the downside - performance. I played RS in Java for over 15 years, using older computers (I used a 2012 laptop before switching to this one to run NXT.) and honestly, even though it was older, Java outperformed NXT pretty much across the board. Teleports are a mess in NXT, and it lags, freezes, and crashes way more than Java ever did...and I'm using an upgraded computer that is 6 years newer than the one I ran Java on!

Sure, sometimes it plays fine. Other times, you're lucky if you can manage to even log in and play for more than a few minutes before your game freezes and either kicks you out, or you have to X out and relaunch the game.

"Delete your cache!" you might be thinking. Uh-huh. Sure. Sometimes I delete the cache several times a day. It helps - for a little while. Then I have to do it again...and again...and this was never an issue for me in Java.

Then there are the malformed login packets. The first time I encountered one of these was the first full day of using NXT. I've had many, many more since then. Yes, my graphics drivers are current. Yes, Edge is my default browser. Have I deleted my cache? See above.

See all the fun you're missing out on, Threes? :P

Funny that Jagex runs too many dxp events now! Lazy!
Indeed. Makes the Exp Gained not seem so Great Accomplishment as non-BXP. Did you get on during the Beach event there was a DG hole. Well you could always make more accounts :) Like train 1 Skill at a Time to 99, 10 Hitpoints, 1 Defense. etc!

Why not log in and take part in the Halloween event at Draynor Manor, Threes?

You'll be able to heal fragmented souls, search for bones, pick potatoes, and make plague soup! You can even unlock your own skeletal dog pet! Doesn't that sound festive?

Why not give it a go? *remembers thread title* Oh, right. :P

I hope your Halloween was good.
