Tonight marks the final Old School Town Square Q&A that will be advertised on the RuneScape Forums, as the forums will be closing tomorrow.
This isn't a post that I was expecting to write when I originally posted this thread in the Old School General forum back in April 2013. At that time, Aja Wyndward and I who were both regular hosts and attendees of the Town Square Q&A initiative in RuneScape had visited one of the early 'Mod Meets' that the 3 members of the Old School team had hosted and noticed the amount of people who had early game questions as many were new or returning players and as a player base, many of us were slowly working out how to find our way through a version of the game many of us had not touched in years. We realized that the initiative would do well if brought to Old School RuneScape too and worked through the month of April scheduling our first session.
A lot has changed over the years since that session - Old School RuneScape has changed to having F2P servers, and as such the event is now hosted on those rather than P2P servers. We also changed locations a number of times based on where the player population was. We started in Varrock West Bank as that was a trading hub on World 330 where we started. When F2P opened we moved to Lumbridge for a time, then we ended up in the Grand Exchange for a bit before we decided that was too busy and ended up back in our current location of Varrock West Bank. This thread now resides in the Old School Events forum, a forum that only came about a few years ago.
Personnel attending on a weekly basis has changed too - some from the RuneScape side helped us get off the ground but over time a regular base of helpful Old School have joined us too. To ensure everyone who has helped us out is recognized, the post on the first page has now been updated to include the line "Many thanks to all who have participated in Town Square Q&A over the years
"
One thing hasn't changed though - despite all the changes, the event continues to be a success, week after week. Some weeks get a lot of questions, other weeks not so much, but as long as one person each week walks away having a good interaction with us, the event is considered a success in my eyes.
Old School Town Square Q&A will continue to be run each week - for those in the US, it will continue to be at 9PM Eastern time, 2AM in the UK. The time may be slightly different for other areas depending on when Daylight Saving time goes into effect. Hopefully we will be able to find a new location to advertise the event soon, though there does not really appear to be a good location for that right now.
As a way to close out this thread, it only seems fitting to share a screenshot from the very first Old School Town Square Q&A - you'll find that at the bottom of this post.
Many thanks to all who have helped to keep this a success, and here's to many more successful Old School Town Square Q&A sessions in the future.
And of course.... tonight's Town Square Q&A will begin in just over 4 hours from now. See you there!
