Currently, the OSRS Mobile app for iPad is simply a scaled up version of the phone app. Now, this alone is not bad as the OSRS Mobile app is one of the most thoughtfully designed experiences ever to be ported from desktop computers to mobile devices. However, the iPad is rapidly evolving into something that’s less of a large iPhone and more of a streamlined touchscreen Mac.

With that being said, I would like to share some of my thoughts and suggestions on how to better adapt OSRS to the iPad after reviewing Apple’s general guidelines for developers when developing for iPadOS in 2020. This list of suggestions is merely a wishlist of what would make my favorite game on my favorite computing device a perfect experience.

1. Performance and stability still seems to be a huge issue on iPad where 60 FPS crashes regularly even on my 2018 iPad Pro.

2. Split View and Slide Over support would absolutely take OSRS on the iPad to the next level and allow us to comfortably run the game no matter what task we’re working on.

3. Trackpads and keyboards are officially a fully-integrated method of input, and implementing right clicking along with the arrow keys being able to rotate the camera would make navigating the UI feel nearly on-par with the desktop version of the game.

4. Resizable or smaller UI elements would take advantage of the larger displays and make the entire interface more information-dense where appropriate.

I know this list would take a lot of man hours to implement, but I believe that it would make the iPad a priority destination for many OSRS players. In it’s current state, OSRS Mobile is my favorite game, and I appreciate the effort gone in to make the mobile port as amazing as it is. Thank you!
