If you come across this thread, it is highly likely that the league is still active despite the lack of posts. This forum thread is used only as another medium for the league and so information on it can be easily looked up without the need to join our Discord first. Season stats, standings, player information etc. will be recorded on the Discord rather than on here.

------------------

Citadel Football is a team ball sport based in the Clan Citadel battlefield, previously known as NRC and Runeball. It contains elements of Football (both English and American) and Rugby, with our own influences sprinkled in. It is essentially just a sports game, so if you have any interest whatsoever in sport, (or even if you don't) this will be a fun and friendly addition to your Runescape experience.

As of now we have a pitch in Kingdom of Ashdale's citadel.

Our Discord can be found here for all info and as a hub for everyone.
https://discord.gg/QaH6hVs if link doesn't work.

Also a note on the following information: A lot of new players remark that it seems quite complicated at first, then find themselves easily adapting to it after a training session or two. Do not be worried if it is initially confusing.

Helpful Terminology and Abbreviations

Attacking Team : The team currently attempting to run the ball into the opponent's goal.

Defending Team : The team currently attempting to prevent the attacking team from scoring.

A Play : Starts when a player on the attacking team passes to a team mate at the beginning of a game half, after a goal or after a down. Begins in the central ball spawn for half starts and restarts after a goal. Begins at the location the ball was tackled at after a down occurs. Plays are sometimes just called downs as a team will progress through them both at the same time.

Drive : A set of 6 plays that the attacking team attempts to use to score a goal.

Down (D1, D2, D3, D4, D5) : When the ball tackled by a defender during a play, the play ends and a down is called.

Turnover (Turn) : The 6th down of a drive. When this occurs the attacking team becomes the defending team and vice versa.

Time out (T/o) : When a referee pauses the timer and stops gameplay. Can only occur when a play is not being carried out.

Time in (T/i) : Gameplay resumes.

Halftime and Fulltime (Ht and Ft) : Signals the halfway break or the end of the match. Can only occur at the end of a drive.

Basic Rules

*Do not worry if the next sections are confusing. It is normal for natural gameplay to sink in after some experience on the pitch.

• A game consists of 20 minutes; two halves of 10 minutes each, with a 3 minute break in between. A match is played by two teams usually consisting of 3 players on the field, with up to 2 substitutes on the sidelines each. The amount of players on the pitch can be increased to 4 each if both teams have enough players.

• Teams are allowed three 60 second timeouts per game.

• When a timeout is called by a team, the referee can grant it provided that the team has permitted timeouts left. A timeout will only take effect on the next dead ball after the timeout is called, and only if a referee has called it.

• Referees are able to call their own timeouts which has no effect on a team's remaining number.

• Spectators are not allowed onto the field during a game.

Gameplay

• During the course of a game, each team will regularly switch between being the attacking team and the defending team. The points-scoring objective is to take the ball into your opponent's goal while you are the attacking team.

• Goals are located at the end of both sides of the field, and are worth 1 point.

• Games are played using a series of offensive drives for the attacking team. Each drive consists of 6 downs. A down occurs when the ball is tackled by a defender during a play. When the 6th down of a drive occurs or a goal is scored, the attacking team becomes the defending team, and vice versa.

• Game halves and restarts after a goal has been scored begin from the ball spawn in the middle of the field. The attacking team must pick up the ball from this spawn and begin a play.

• A play can only start with a pass from the ball spawn or the place where the previous down occurred. No forward passing is permitted at any point, the ball MUST be passed sideways or backwards.

• Players on the defending team can only tackle attacking players during a play. At some point during the play, the tackler must have been at least 5 squares back from where the play started from.

Gameplay Infringements

Attack

Forward Pass: Passing forward during a play, results in a loss of down.

Starting Play from Wrong Place : If an attacker attempts to begin a play when too far from the play-start location, the play is restarted from the correct position. This is allowed when the passer is forced to move for a long range pass.

Piling : Only applies for the play-starting pass. If the passer or receiver is on top of a teammate when the ball is passed it results in a loss of down.

Starting Play too Quickly : A play can only start two seconds after picking up the ball or when the defending team's players are at least 5 squares back. If play is started too quickly it results in a loss of down.

"Ghost Goal" : Attempting to score a goal which is impossible to defend against results in a loss of down.

Defence

Offside : If a defender makes a tackle without being at least 5 spaces back from the location where the play started. (4 spaces in between defender and play-start location) This results in an extra play for the attacking team.

External Infringements

Acting against the sportsmanship of the game. For example, timewasting, dissent and breaking Runescape rules can result in warnings, yellow cards and dismissal from the game. (red card)
