Kind of ironic to me that the anti-bad luck system they made wasn't immune to bad luck in itself. I never got my Boss Shard, despite trying for 16 hours over 3 days to get it. Didn't find out until I had given up that the anti-bad luck system for the Boss Shard didn't kick in until 3,000 marks were earned. Anyone working public KBD instances can tell you that KBD was going down in under 30 seconds, and if you didn't deal enough dmg in that half a minute, you didn't get marks. No marks. No shard.
I managed to get my GPH, but it seems counter to the spirit of the 20'th anniversary celebration to leave so many so close to obtaining their hats out in the cold because no one decided to tweak the odds to make it guaranteed that they'd get theirs. They increased the wrapping paper drops, why couldn't they increase the odds for the golden shards, too?
I would hope that Jagex wouldn't want to close their 20'th anniversary celebration on such a sour note... I hope that they give people another chance this year to obtain the hat, because it seems scummy to me that the only option people have now is to fork out $70 dollars u.s to buy the bonds needed to get a hat that should have been theirs through fair means and not decided by the whims of RNG.
This is a game, not a job. It's no fun if it feels like work.
