Hi all, I just wanted to raise awareness of whats happening on Twitch.
- So here's the situation:
I just lost my 750m OSRS bank - Due to a Phish via a Twitch Dummy stream pretending to be an OSRS livestream, advertising OSRS 24hour double exp.
Im stupid and gullible and yes an idiot for getting phished in 2018, I've played since 2006 and you would've thought I'd have not fallen for it. But my main question is... Why in the first place would twitch allow people to make these 'Fake' RuneScape livestreams in the first place. Surely you would think that Jagex would have a relationship with Twitch so people can't take advantage and scam players via major platforms such a Twitch, but that's just my two sense.
Before any of u ask questions like, you've played for 12 years how did you not realize? -
It was mainly the fact that the stream had several thousand viewers like a typical OSRS stream and I did not immediately recognize that it was a repeat stream, I clicked on it originally for something to watch whilst playing, but then I noticed that the title said something like 'OSRS 24h Double Exp' underneath the stream... So at this point I was obviously intrigued. I clicked the link to 'Activate', which in hindsight sounds very sketchy, and proceeded to login. Yes I did have an Authenticator and Bank Pin etc, the Phish had all this included in the 'fake website' which also looked legitimate.
I suppose it was my initial excitement of the first double exp in OSRS for 24 hours and just wanted to crack on. I mean I've never seen anyone before use twitch to do something like Phish, but hey it was my own fault for not proof checking the claim of double exp before pursuing the link.
I'm sure many other people have fallen for the same thing as me but please everyone else, make sure you guys don't fall for the same scam that I did... And make sure whenever you're watching the RuneScape stream, ensure it's the legitimate RuneScape livestream, 'twitch.tv/runescape'.
