In the blog post it specifically mentions that the proceeds from the mediation bundle go to the 2 charities and doesn't mention the other items in the charity shop interface. Just to make sure if I buy an outfit or a pet would the proceeds still go to the charity or can I only support them by buying the mediation bundle?

You need to buy a mediation bundle if you want to support the charities.
It would definitely say so if the other purchases were also providing support.

Thanks, so is it a bug when you hover over the other items and the hover text says that you can support the charities with buying those items? (I'm specifically talking about the shop in the events tab of the game where the charity is. The one that has the bundles, a few outfits and pets)

No, it's not a Bug.
The hover says you are supporting through those other purchases as well.
Jagex haven't explained what exactly happens when one of the other purchases is made.
