I know this is a bit old, but I've found a "workaround" for anyone else having this issue and cannot connect any other way to load the game. It seems to be select ISPs / cell carriers as I have tested on multiple and not all have this error occur. A certain Retailer's plan for example gets this error while even though using the same towers, the "Mainstream" carrier service does not.
Search for a Free VPN (or pay for one if you prefer) and connect to it before loading the client.
Launch the client as normal, and then after it loads (hopefully it should, it worked for me) and you reach the login screen you can actually
disconnect
from the VPN before entering your password to log in. Helpful for any false flags from pinging all over the place or limited bandwith of Free VPN usage.
The check is only happening when trying to initially load the client, not run/play the game itself so once you make it to the login screen you should be good to go. Hope this helps anyone in the future that stumbles across this problem.
