Yikes, that is a lot of deleted spam. Here is a link to the last Non-spam related post from 16 January 2020.

Anyhow, I don't have any real reason to be posting in this thread right now, other than to get conversation started again and to remind my future self that the Runescape Linux client instructions at the official Runescape Downloads page work very well on Ubuntu 18.04.4

Another handy reminder for my future self, if audio ever gets choppy again -- try messing with the pulse_latency_msec environment variable, eg.

> env PULSE_LATENCY_MSEC=60 runescape-launcher

I already forgot if 60 msec is a good latency for running runescape's audio, since I haven't had that problem with the official client for several months.

Edit: it was 100 msec back when I was using the flatpack version of the client, according to an older post of mine.

Can anyone help me? I'm completely new to Linux and VERY lost. I am also on a very old laptop, so that doesn't help. I've tried to install both the NXT client and HikariKnight's launcher. Both are failing. When I run NXT from command using runescape-launcher it USED to give the error /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libssl.so.1.1: version 'OPENSSL_1_1_1' not found (required by /usr/share/games/runescape-launcher/runescape)

However, I've been messing with this for three days and now I no longer get that error. I don't remember what made it go away..I should have kept a log but didn't. Something to do with Mesa, maybe. No more error is nice, however after the main screen of the lady, the log in page is just black with no way to log in.

For HikariKnight's version I am getting multiple errors when I run runescape from command.
lineux@lineux-Satellite-L305:~$ runescape
WARNING: Running in fallback mode!
rsu-queries will use the system perl so some API calls
may not work until you install certain modules
WARNING: Wx::WebView module not found, API calls using Wx::WebView will not work

(I can't copy the entire message of errors here due to space, but maybe we can start at those?) HK's version loads all the way to the login page but as soon as I put my info in it gives me a Java out of date error and won't let me continue.

I don't care which launcher I use, I just need something to work. Any ideas at all are appreciated. Oh, and please note that I am trying to get this working for my daughter in college, so I only have access to laptop on weekends.

Seems like the game is having problems with your graphics driver. I'm not sure what to suggest for that. What graphics system do you have? If you're not sure then give me the make and model of the laptop. Maybe I can look it up. What distro of Linux are you using? What is the version of the distro?

What you posted are warnings rather than errors. Apparently they didn't stop HK's client from working. Java being out of date is a separate issue. What version of Java do you have installed? You can check that by opening Terminal and typing
java -version

Support for using Java to run RS3 has ended so I expect HK's client will only run Old School now. You will have to use the NXT client to play RS3. Perhaps that is what the message about Java being out of date was telling you.
