I made the mistake of loading in compatability mode and now everything is very insainly sluggish for at least the first minute. How do I leave compatibility mode? I've tried google and wiki and what they say isn't even an option. First, the launcher loads instantly so there's no cog to click in the bottom left. The "settings" button in the top right doesn't do a damn thing. All I get is "load at start-up" and language options. Wow, so helpful. The whole "Go to the folder C:\ProgramData\Jagex\launcher and right click rs2client.exe and select Properties. " is also a joke. Can someone give me GOOD options that will actually work please? All I want to do is turn off compatibility mode, not adjust it or anything.

When I "go into settings" that way and select the compatability tab, it's not checked as to be IN compatability mode. But when the game is running it says it's running in compatability mode???? I'm very confussed and frustrated!
Thanks for trying to help.

This may sound dumb but which "compatiability setting" should I set it to? I am using Windows 10 and the game runs fine on my steam account. Should I do vista? XP? I'm pretty clueless sorry.
No question is dumb, don't worry. You shouldn't need to set it to any compatibility mode at all, if it's unchecked and still running in compatibility mode i'm not sure what else could be causing it, sorry.
Here to help <3

So, there are two different compatibility modes that people mix up.

One, is a setting in the Windows operating system. This setting is meant for Windows to pretend it is an older version of Windows which helps some programs run correctly. This is the setting that involves going to the rs2client.exe file and selecting Properties. This setting has nothing to do with the graphical compatibility mode of the RuneScape Client and you shouldn't need to mess with this setting.

The second is the setting you are interested in. If you are using the RuneScape Client then, after you get to the login menu, you click on RuneScape in the upper left corner and you will see Options, click that and you can change the graphics mode.

However, if you are using the new Jagex Launcher then that adds a new wrinkle. After starting the Jagex Launcher and logging in, if you need to, you see a blue Play button. There is a Setting button in the upper right area of the window but ignore that. Click the blue Play button. That will start the RuneScape Client. Briefly you will see a loading menu and there is a golden cog / gear button for you to click but if you miss that then at the screen where it says "Welcome! Play Korthala" there is a button in the upper left corner that says RuneScape that you can click to get to the Options menu which will let you change your graphics mode.
