Jagex Launcher - Error

I can't install RuneScape from the Jagex Launcher.

It gives the following error:

"ERROR
The launcher has experienced an error and needs to close
- Process returned unknown error code

QUIT LAUNCHER"

This only happens when trying to install RS3. I've tried restarting my computer several times and disconnecting from the network, but that doesn't work either. I have also installed Java 8, no luck.

What can I do to solve this?

Is there a direct link to download and install RS3?

I have seen one or two other people with this problem.

Are you able to install the OSRS client via the Launcher?

Yeah, I can install OSRS, but not RS3.
I am using Windows 11.

I've seen someone else with the exact same issue in the last few days.

In their case, they went back to Windows 10, and it then worked for them. I'm not advising you to do that, they were going to revert to Windows 10 anyway for other reasons.

I'll ask Jagex if they are aware of any issues with the Jagex Launcher running on Windows 11. Glad to be of service :) (Powered by GPP™ - Share and Enjoy!)

In the meantime, you can still download the stand alone client, but the link is a little hard to find. Go to this support page:
Recommended specifications
To download the standalone client, click on the round Runescape symbol in the 'Download' column of the "RuneScape and Old School clients" table.

Thanks, that was what I was looking for :-)

I tried to find a stand-alone client link but I couldn't find any available links. What is a bit confusing is why does OSRS work (I can install OSRS through the Launcher), but not RS3. I also saw somewhere that previous Java versions would work and I tried that but it didn't work either.

After downloading the client, I can also run it through the Launcher.

I have the opposite error. I can load and run Rs3 just fine, but not the Osrs official client.
I tried your link above and downloaded and reinstalled the Osrs client, but it didn't work.

I am also using Win 11.

I'm in the same position on Windows 10.
The launcher works fine with RS3 but not OSRS. =/

got on today and my entire launcher is just crashing instantly on startup. luckily my runelite starts up just fine without the launcher. tried to manually install the rs3 launcher to test it that way and it still crashes like it would with the launcher

hi I am getting the same issue. I was getting RuneScape crashing maybe 10 times a day so i uninstalled it and found a new launcher...which doesn't work. If i try launching RS, I get error "unfortunately RS could not start. please try uninstalling and reinstall etc etc. I ahve tried this 5 times now.
I ahve emptied my cache an tried restarting my laptop.
I have also tried the suggestion to launch standalone - get same response.

I am windows 11 and somewhat sad about this. i was just about to level up to 119 archy. as well :/
