I wanted to start playing RS again with the new skill coming. I haven't played in 2 1/2 years, as has been my M.O. with this game... My account is almost 20 years old, I usually play really hard for a few months, burn out, play different games for a couple years, rinse repeat.

Never had an issue in the past, but this time when I came back none of my normal PW's worked, so I used the account recovery (account is definitely old enough to where it is login by username not email).

However every time I have tried, I get denied. I provide the locations I have played (literally 6 of them as I went to college and moved repeatedly for work). Payment info as best I can for CCs I have long since gotten rid of etc.

Every time no matter how much information I provide (and correct recovery questions I answer) I get denied.

What is the secret? What are they actually looking for to prove I'm me? Or has Jagex simply given up and set a weight on the deny button and left the room?

Hey, IronMcTemple.

How long does it take for you to get a response back? Is it instant (within minutes) or does it take an hour or more? Knowing this piece of information would let us know how far along you are in the process of recovering your account.

Reading the Account recovery denied Support page may give you some insight on what they are looking for.

Always remember...

• Try not to use a VPN when recovering an account. VPNs make it harder for Jagex to create a digital print of the account, something that's very useful to them and to the player when such player is trying to recover an account;
• You must try to recover the account in question from the location that you created the account on or the location that you play the most on. This will show Jagex more proof that you are indeed the account's owner;
• The earlier the information that you enter, the better. This is because it will allow Jagex to see that you indeed know the earliest details on the account. Most recent details may not be useful;
• Try to put the ISP that was used when you created the account. If it's still the same, then say so. This will help you tremendously;
• Try to name ANY display names of OTHER accounts that you may already own, even if you don't play on them that often. This allows Jagex to cross-reference ownership links among those accounts;
• Billing information usually means the earliest details that you may have from the account in question;
• You should mention the original display name of the account, ONLY if the account in question has an email as a login.

Keep trying. Don't give up and read those deny emails sent to you. They are informative :) .

I will HIGHLY disagree with the deny emails being informative, it is always the same generic form response. I really wish they more tailored that would help a lot!

That being said I have tried everything you have mentioned with the exception of mentioning other accounts which I can do.

I have never used a VPN to play.

The emails usually come in about 18-24 hours, so it is not the instant denial. I did have that happen the first time when I used the characters current username instead of the original account name.

The response taking as long as you say is an encouraging sign. :)
It means you do have quite a bit of information, you just need to polish/tweak it a bit to get it over the line.

The information you put into the 'Other Comments' box is what will swing the recovery over to success so think carefully about what you put in that box.
Stating locations you played from only needs to be town/country. If you live in USA, it needs to be town/state/country
You can also list the emails you have had linked to the account in Other Comments.
If you have too much information for the form, focus on submitting the earliest information.

The reasons for the deny can be fairly generic but the real reasons should still be in there somewhere.
If the account has ever been hijacked during its life, make sure you only submit information that predates that hijack as Jagex want to see information from a time when the account was completely secure.
