I was muted a few days ago and I am stuck trying to understand why.
For context, my all chat is usually off and I only ever message two people.

I have read the chat log many times and am failing to see a valid reason for the mute.
The report says "Evidence Type: Abuse report"

Below, is a summary of what was said in the conversation. I hope it is okay.
It all happened via private messages.

- I am basically telling this person I met some time ago about daily challenges and how
we can get treasure hunter keys by completing them.
- I was busy and wasn't too sure how to explain to him how to find the challenges tab. So, I
I found it easier to take a screenshot and share it with him. In chat I said, look at the pic I
sent on discord.
- Then I thought maybe daily tasks/keys were mems only, so I told him I'd check on my non
mems account.
- Then I was basically telling him about the quest caravan and rune goldberg machine.
Trying to convince him that mems was worth it because there are more ways to make
money.

That's it. I don't understand how any of that is breaking the rules. I submitted an appeal but basically got a message back saying the mute was justified.

Later I asked the person if he reported me and he said no. I don't know. It is normal for Jagex to monitor private messages?

I don't understand. I feel like I got muted by a bot and then same bot rejected my appeal because I don't get it. I thought maybe it was because of discord but I have seen people talk about joining discords in all chat before. Also, clans tend to advertise their discords.

It can't be because I shared a picture of my game because streamers share their entire screens all the time right?

Given yours example, a nuanced summary, you might have given advice that is more leaning towards RWT which is prohibited by all means.
It is best to read the '
Rules of RuneScape
' thoroughly to see what is allowed and what isn't. Those rules are explained very clear leaving nothing to the imagination about where the line is drawn.
Daily tasks/keys are by all means '
not mems only
' as they too can be obtained by F2P players, alike me, who are able to gain them on a daily bases.

So, you are telling me that teaching other players about built in game mechanics is considered real world trading?

Hello Forgottenr, ... '
It is normal for Jagex to monitor private messages?
' ... if circumstances indicate that the safety of a player or/and Jagex/JMods are at risk, yes Jagex/JMods might deploy certain tools to monitor conversations to guarantee a safe and secure environment.

- Jagex/JMods have '
chatmonitors
' that might respond quickly, making it able to mute someone if necessary.

- moderators might mute a person, given and taken that moderators strictly follow Jagex's/JMods directions/policy/instructions, afterwards taken into the hands of Jagex/JMods and finalized by Jagex/JMods.

- players might report other players through the ingame report system resulting in a possible player-mute of said offender.

These are the things that can result to to being muted.

The fact that you made an appeal and said appeal being denied, mute justified, indicates that a real person, a JMod of Jagex, have looked into said appeal and looked at ingame-evidence, collected by Jagex's Systems, at the moment of said offence.

In my experience with Jagex/JMods and other moderators and/or players, text/context can be interpret differently by a lot of individuals making you bang your head against the wall multiple times. It can be frustrating at times but nevertheless justified.
More I won't say at this moment ...

Reading your OP it made me smile as it felt like a dejavu for me ... (
ohhh I am already feeling this will backfire me in the future, if not, earlier ... but anyhow
)

-
I am basically telling this person

-

-

-

So I hope you do understand now how that may come along to another person, or maybe in this case by a chat-monitor.

There are other ways to explain to players ingame, in RuneScape or in OldSchool RuneScape, that there are other ways to find what they are looking for leaving said choice to the individual you are trying to help. to decide themself what to do ... or what not to, without sending them off to discord or any other place or player account.

--------

In RuneScape(3) in our chatwindows we have an opportunity to switch to '
RuneScape Wiki
' in a safe way without ending up in the wrong place on The Internet.
This button is in your chatwindow at the bottom-right.
By logging in the first time of a new day, you will notified about your '
daily-challenges
'.

--------

In OldSchool RuneScape, under the World Map it says '
WIKI
' which you are able to 'right-click' and find links to summon the '
RuneScape Wiki
' for advise.

--------

Clicking on said '
compass
' in RuneScape(3), opens a players '
Adventures
'-window where you are able to find said '
challenges
'-tab.

--------

So it all comes to to how you word your advise and giving said player the freedom to find safe/secure sources of information, themselves deciding what they wanna do or what not to.
