It sounds like you have forgotten the login.
Unless you actually created the account via your Steam, it should have a login email.

"Someone advised to change email and password"

That will only change the "registered" email. The registered email is the contact email.

The ticket you sent via the 'forgo login details' support page is the right thing to do.
