This is not a request to try and get my account unbanned. There is an appeal in progress for that.

Myself and two friends signed up to create a group ironman after wanting to find a game to play together to fit our busy lifestyles. We used to play back in 2007 when we were teenagers. We are all now in our thirties with families, work and responsibilities.

We have been loving it. Group ironman is a great mode and suited us well. We loved the idea that we had our own "economy" and we were not influenced by botters in any way.

Today, my aim was to try and get to 70 defence so that I could wear my newly found Torags Chestplate. I had planned to go and kill Skotizo for the first time ever. This is probably not a great achievement for many other players, but it is to our group. We were loving it.

So, while working today, I had planned to go and AFK kill sandcrabs from 65-70 defence. I figured it would take me half the day or so. I log in on my mobile and get to it.

At I just hit 67 defence, I get logged out. I try log back in and see a message 'Your account has been involved in serious rulebreaking'. I have been permanently banned for 'botting'.

I break the news to my group. Everyone is confused but we are very close. They have decided to stop playing until this has been resolved in solidarity.

To be honest, even if the appeal overturns the ban I am not sure I can continue playing. The worry that I am sinking hundreds of hours into a game just to get banned for a false-positive is too much.

Banning legitimate players for playing the game as you intend, using your official software is unacceptable. I have never broken the rules, nor do I care to.

It's time to find another game to play.

Good afternoon.

I have read that thread already and none of the rules have been broken by me.

I am using the official client.

I don't have any dodgy 3rd party software installed on my mobile.

Regarding the list of prohibited features,
I see no mention of using your own finger to click as a bannable offence.

I have an official appeal in progress.

An update:

After some hard thinking and reading of the material it's possible early on into the account I used a 3rd party Runelite plugin which i've found today is against the rules. I accept if the account is to be banned for this, so be it.

The thing that bothers me is that if the account has been banned for this, there are some things that don't seem fair for paying customers:

a) No warning at all. Players put a lot of time and money into this game. This is very strict.
b) The time it has taken to reach this conclusion. I have not done this activity for at least a month. Likely more.
c) Jagex has been happy to accept my subscription money in the meantime.

You are given a warning and that warning has come in this form: t he usage of third-party software was, is and always will be at your own risk . Although you do not get banned for merely using RuneLite, there are certain plugins and/or add-ons that are deemed against the rules and if used may get your account in trouble. Since Jagex doesn't control the third-party program, that's the reason it comes with a warning.

Jagex has shared two news articles regarding third-party software:

1. Third Party Client Guidelines [June 1st, 2022]
2. Third Party Clients Update [June 17th, 2022]

Both may be found inside the Macroing & RWT bans [Info] sticky that I shared above. Jagex is only able to fully control the clients that they own as they manage it and maintain it daily; however, that isn't true for RuneLite, for example. RuneLite does try their best to ensure that add-ons/plugins do not break the rules, but considering the vast majority of users out there and the increased probability of cheating, it's obvious that it can't be 100% bullet-proof.

I suspect a lot of innocent and well-meaning players are falling into similar traps. This will probably increase with Jagex announcing they officially permit usage of RuneLite through the Jagex Launcher. I think the difference between a lapse of judgement/honest mistake and someone intentionally cheating is clear enough to see. At least from the statistics on my own account.

In the end, I understand that all actions have consequences, regardless of intent. Thank you for your time.
