First thoughts!
I have been playing the minigame for about an hour now, and starting to get the hang of it. I don't have an issue with the rewards or xp so far, and it looks like the outfit is achievable in less than 10 hrs which is reasonable.
My issue so far is the gameplay itself.
We are introduced to this the same way as GOTR, so it's very difficult not to compare the 2. The quest is shorter and has less lore. The gameplay is less forgiving as you feel that you are losing points rather than <not gaining points> like in GOTR. It's a solo minigame and there's little reason to interact with people around you. (Not that we didn't know this was the case before the update)
It's also a bit annoying because you can't really AFK without ruining your sword, and thus need to be fully paying attention. There are periods where you need to wait 10 seconds at a time, but again, if you are a second too late, you lose points and money (from the bars). At that point I'd prefer to be either fully AFK or fully attentive for max xp.
All in all, I don't hate the update, I just think the minigame is not all that engaging and I'm having difficulty staying interested after 1 hour. I'm not sure that non-irons will stick around after purchasing the main rewards.
Edit: Some more thoughts
Once you know how to play, it's not a big deal, but it would be useful if the overlay/UI displayed what each icon represents when hovering over it (hammer, grind, polish, etc). There have been multiple times that I ran over and used the wrong tool because I wasn't paying 100% attention. All it takes is 1 misclick to damage the sword.
It also might be asking too much, but I feel like it would be way less frustrating if you automatically stopped using a tool upon reaching the next stage.
