With the upcoming release of A Kingdom Divided, we’d like to take the opportunity to answer your burning questions about the Kourend and Kebos lore.

We’ve dusted off Postie Pete, set him up with a fetching pair of galoshes (not sure how he’ll wear them, mind), and given him the addresses of several notable NPCs – so all that’s left now is for YOU to ask the questions!

Stuck for inspiration? The Old School Wiki has an archive of all the previous issues of Postbag from the Hedge! Ooh, we’re feeling all nostalgic.

I couldn't wait! :D Hope this gets picked. *munches crunchies*

Dear Professor Gracklebone,

I trust this letter has reached you in good order. Whilst I fully understand you are busy in the Arceeus library, I have some burning questions pertaining to your research that I hope you might be willing to answer. Feel free to keep the rare post stamp I once received from my friend Brimstail (perhaps you are acquainted?) depicting Mibbiwocket.

I was wondering whether you could share some details of what you have learnt of the mysterious ways of Arceeus's inhabitants during your stay in Kourend. Lately, developments around the Dark Altar have been cause of concern amongst its people. Could your fresh perspective shed any new light on the matter? Do you perchance see some kind of connection with the magicks of Glouphrie the Untrusted?

You will indubitably have noticed that the Arceeus spellbook of magic is mainly concerned with the reanimation of souls. This link reminded me of the gnomes' deep connection to the spirit trees, and what you call the 'anima mundi'. Might there be something to learn from the Arceeus folk in this regard?

If you would allow, I would like to ask something about yourself personally as well. Have you travelled to Arceeus by yourself, or have you brought family? Am I correct to assume you are employed with the revered Gnome Institute of Knowledge? And how long are you planning to stay?

Thank you very much in advance, and best of luck with your research!

Yours sincerely,
Lord Drakan

PS Are you familiar with the Aluft Aloft Gnome Food Delivery Service? I happen to work for Aluft Gianne's restaurant and would be happy to deliver you freshly baked toad crunchies or worm holes, or anything else to your liking! You wouldn't happen to have any spare scarves, would you?
Bizarre Boron Fusswell, scryer extraordinaire. OSRS: POH ideas & RS3 minigames & achievement ideas !

Perhaps you're half right; perhaps we can't win. But we can fight.

Lord Shiro Shayzien, sir. You may remember me as the adventurer who searched for evidence relating to the Magnus Rimor expedition at Mount Quidamortem on Phileas Rimor's orders several years ago. As the investigation of Phileas' disappearance is ongoing, I have taken it upon myself to report the discovery of a chthonic Xerician artefact, and to inquire about the abandoned tower in the southeastern reaches of your settlement.

It all began with the discovery of a strange talisman in Molch, shaped like the sigil of Xeric. It was found in a stone chest hidden within the tunnels underneath the pyramid that the lizardmen dedicated to Xeric. Although we were wary of such an accursed implement, Horphis - leading scholar on the study of Xeric's power at the library of Arceuus - assured us that the talisman was safe to use, and further revealed that each corner of the sigil had a note inscribed in it: "my glade", "my look-out", "my heart" and "the inferno". A fifth inscription in the central surface of the talisman could not be deciphered by any of the library's epigraphists.

Nevertheless, the artefact could not be activated, imbued, enchanted or otherwise operated in any manner, so we began treating it as a meaningless trinket, as a way of mocking the memory of that tyrannical traitor. Now, Altus, one of my brothers-in-arms, happens to wear a necklace with the fangs of lizardmen he has slain, and during one of our nightly gambling sessions he earned the privilege of adorning himself with the talisman after winning five Rune-Draws in a row. As soon as the talisman struck one of the fangs, Altus was whisked away into the abyss.

We were perplexed, and despite our best efforts we only found him several days later, claiming that he was teleported to the magic tree orchard in Hosidius. We took the talisman back to Horphis for further analysis, who confirmed that indeed it can be operated by scratching it with a lizardman's fang. Activating the "inferno" corner took us to the lovakite furnace, "heart" to Kingstown and "glade" to the magic tree orchard; nothing surprising thus far.

The more concerning discovery, however, was that scratching the "look-out" corner led us to the aforementioned abandoned tower within your jurisdiction. It is unclear how this ruin relates to Xeric. All evidence indicates that it was abandoned in a hurry, perhaps with a violent struggle of sorts. Countless tomes and parchments are strewn about, some furniture is broken, a surgical table was left with amputated limbs still on it and even some valuable pieces of equipment - notably the spyglass - were left behind.

Most concerningly, someone felt the need to draw an arrow in blood on the top floor. Our company followed the arrow due west but found nothing of any relevance. Perhaps it points to Mount Quidamortem, where Xeric and his lackeys are said to have cowardly fled to after being vanquished by the people of Kourend. But why would they want to reveal such sensitive information?

Thus, I ask that you assist us in this inquiry. Although I am an outlander, I believe I have proven my loyalty to the people of Great Kourend, and as such I formally request clearance to any information that will help us get to the bottom of this. If Xeric indeed has access to magic that can teleport him across your lines of defence straight into the heart of the kingdom, we are all in grave danger.

Yours faithfully, Cpt. Desaniimo of the Myths' Guild's Occidental Research Company.

I've already submitted mine on Reddit, but I'll put it here too for those that don't use Reddit:

Addressed to Asteros Arceuus

How have you been doing, Asteros? I'm sure your father is occupied with the aftermath of the incident and his continuing tasks on freeing the souls of the kingdom, so I have opted to write to you instead.

With my assistance, the natural historians from the Varrock Museum have made great progress in their research on the lizards on Mount Quidamortem, and I believe that a second expedition should be lead in the Northern Tundras. The main area of focus for the moment would be the Settlement Ruins.

The ruins is worth investigating in and of itself, but upon my visiting of the area, I've found that aggressive icy creatures have made their home here; with our recent efforts in keeping the Wintertodt at bay, as well as a bit of your persuasion, I'm sure Ignisia can spare some of her pyromancers to have the area made safer for less combat-oriented researchers. However, the more interesting items are what surround the ruins.

The strange symbol to the north of the ruins appear to be very similar to a talisman I've recently excavated at the Digite in Misthalin. Further research indicates that this symbol is that of an old god named Zaros, but he is more often referred to as the "Empty Lord". I can't seem to find any reference to him in the Kourend Grand Library, but perhaps you may be able to? I would ask Logosia, but she is not very helpful.

The second item in question is the standing stone atop the cliff, outside the ruins. The appearance of the stone looks remarkably similar to the standing stones present in Asgarnia, though the Asgarnia site has four of these stones with elemental symbols embedded upon them, while the Kourend site has just one. Might there be more buried under all the snow?

An expedition to the Northern Tundras will surely shed light on more of Kourend's history before its founding, and may even solve some of the current mysteries from our mainland. Or, it may bring even more questions to the table!

I surely hope you can provide some insight on what Arceuus knows of the ruins and its surroundings, and work with the Varrock Museum to fund an expedition soon.

Best regards, Spineweilder

Dear Kaht B'alam,

I trust you will be able to read this letter, since you seem to understand and remember our common tongue.

Nevertheless, since we've last spoken in your temple, I was curious, to say the least, about your kind and your history.

While you did share a little bit of the mysterious past that surround your origins, it occurred to me that some of your shaman seemed to possess strange powers and abilities, and since some adventurer, such as myself, are in a constant quest for knowledge and power, I was wondering if you would be incline to share this wisdom with some of us. In turn, maybe we could work something to bring our species closer, such as an alliance or a treaty that would benefit both of us.

(To be fair, I believe we should try to end the war between the Shayzien soldiers and your tribe if we have the chance.)

Also, in my travels, I meet an individual named Ket'sal K'uk, in the swamp, near the north-western coast, who seemed to be too preoccupied by his own rituals to bother speak to me at all and I was wondering if you had knowledge of his presence and if you could explain me his doing. (Perhaps, I would be able to assist him even if he was to open up.)

Anyway, I hope that this message will reach you and I thank you in advance for your time and your reply.

Sincerely,
Etienne II

Dear Mrs. Mary,

Why does your house contain an incomplete windmill? It has the turbine outside, part of a grinder inside, as well as pot and sink downstairs, and a wheat field by the nearby guild. I would very much like to be able to make bread in the area.

Thank you.

Dear Mr. Gricoller

Greetings old man, how are things going at the farm?

I'm writing this letter to apologize for my absence at the farm over the past few months, I realize it has been quite a while since I've dropped by to plant more of those giant prize winning fruits of yours at record speeds and I do miss our long conversations over lunch. I've been so tied up in my adventures recently that I just haven't had the time or occasion to stop by despite us being neighbors.

But I'm happy to say that things have settled down for now and I'll be stopping by soon to share yet another cup of tea with you. I'd like to take the opportunity to formally thank you for all your help over the past year, you and your family welcomed me with open arms when I moved to Hosidius and the knowledge on farming you bestowed upon me during my time working with you has been invaluable. I'm nearly becoming a master farmer myself now and spend quite a lot of time at the Farming guild south of mount Karuulm under the wing of Jane, the guildmaster. Do you by any chance know her? Quite a hardworking and conscientious lass she is. Anyway, take care of yourself in the meantime, see you soon!

Sincerely, Roktello

P.S: Tell your grandaughter, Logava, to sell the Golovanova fruit tops on her stalls so I can make some botanical pies with them. She refuses to sell them to me and other adventurers and because of this I often see people attempting to steal them from her stall! Perhaps make them available as a reward from the tithe farm? or even supply them to Jane at the aforementioned farming guild as rewards in their seed packs so people can plant their own fruits instead of resorting to common theft to aquire them.
