To be honest, I've only seen this quest in videos. I need to level up Slayer and Herblore in order to do it myself. But for the most part, I LOVE what I've seen of it.
For fans of the Myreque quest series, this is an interesting (and fun) alternate branch of the storyline. It takes the best parts of 'Legacy of Seergaze' (the Ivandis flail, the first revelation of Safalaan's Icyenic powers) but uses them in new contexts. There's also a good use of lore material from the later quests (the title of the quest comes from a book found in 'Lord of Vampyrum', and Vanescula's wanting Safalaan for her own purposes - as established in those quests - is hinted at here), and it too is presented in new contexts.
For those disappointed at how Ranis Drakan was sort of thrown under the bus in 'Branches of Darkmeyer', 'A Taste of Hope' certainly gives him his due as an antagonist. Here we get to see just what a horrible person he is (as it's implied he's the one behind the horrible fates of Serafina and her brother, and the fabrication of the myth of Serafina's triumph). And we get to face him in a boss battle, in which we get to put the Ivandis flail (overshadowed in the other quests by the blisterwood weapons) to good use.
We also get a less confusing end to Flaygian Screwte. In the RS3 universe, he just walks out and disappears abruptly, never to be seen or heard from again, and Vertida later tells us that it's unlikely we'll see him again and he's probably dead (unless he got turned into a Vyre, tried to cross the Salve after the events of River of Blood, and turned back to human). Here, however, we get a less ambiguous fate for him, as the Abomination strikes him down right in front of us. In another divergence, Kael Foreshaw is destined to outlive Mekritus in the OSRS universe.
Meanwhile, poor Andiess Julp just can't catch a break, can he? I don't know whether to laugh or to cry.
