YA I just meant that back in real 2006-2007 every world had over 1000 players easily usually with an average of 1300, now Its like an average of 500 players, that was the point I was making,

True, though we did split the community in half since then with the launch of OSRS. I'm not sure exactly how the total world count compares. Anyway, OSRS itself is generally trending upwards, year on year, and I'm glad to have a bit more capacity.

What's the ETA on shift-clicking? Everyone was thinking it would be the next update (this one).

The poll only finished a few minutes ago, so that was perhaps a little optimistic of them. Mod Atlas and his engine team know it's a hot topic though, and will be on it.

Would it be possible to make it so that you can buy battlestaves only after completing some sort of an easy quest? Right now magic guild and especially Varrock are so filled with bots buying those that it's almost impossible to train crafting by making battlestaves.

Throwing in a reference to the lack of Australian servers (STILL!!!!) just made me mad. So mad that I'm writing this post.

Why even bother mentioning it? Saying "we hear your complaints but we have no plans of getting our act together enough to actually do anything about it" DEFINITELY doesn't help.

I work in IT here in Australia and I can tell you it is not difficult to set up a basic server with DDoS protection, there are plenty of companies who would be willing to get it up and running.

Or, you could just be honest and scrap the whole idea altogether, it would make us Australians feel a little less spit on by you.

I find it slightly amusing that they tack it on the end of a 4th birthday post, i.e. 4 years of oldschool Runescape and they still haven't done anything about Australian servers. The advantages that other players have simply through lower ping is beyond ridiculous (especially in a PvP context).

So all the previous US worlds were East-coast US worlds, then?

Is it possible to change the location of the US worlds to say "US West Coast" and "US East Coast?" There's a lot of miles between those two locations.

Great update this week! New worlds are a welcome surprise, and I'm looking forward to the birthday celebration :)

And lastly, please do keep doing what you can for my pals and peers in Australia. That side of the world really should get at least one server.

If we hadn't mentioned it, you'd still feel neglected at the introduction of new worlds somewhere else instead of in the place where they were promised before. I regret that we told you early August; we passed on the info to you in all good faith, but it seems the estimate we were given was for standard hosting, not taking into account OSRS's unusual DDOS protection requirements.

OSRS was never completely unprotected, of course. In the earlier days, we'd got DDOS mitigation that could handle a fair bit, but the attacks were simply orders of magnitude larger. In 2015, the entire game could be basically offline for ages. You'll notice there's been less of that lately. That's because the sysadmins spent the time required to rejig the entire network to mitigate that sort of thing more effectively; it wasn't just a matter of telling the hosting company to plug in a DDOS protection box. Without going into details about what's under the hood (since we prefer not to share that info) 2016 became a lot smoother as the year went on, and we're likely to stick with this approach because it's a lot better than what we had before. Unfortunately, applying it in Australia is taking a long time, and your patience is appreciated while the various supplier companies perform the network works required.
