We only had P2P updates so far.

While we're not giving drop rates straight away, I can confirm that they're not the same rarity as the other unique drops. Furthermore they've been added to the drop table in a place that doesn't affect the rarity of the other unique drops at all.

I looked into that, but ran into the problem that anyone who'd completed the task and claimed the rewards would be able to claim the XP lamps again if I started trying to undo it. Which I think would be worse.

I think 50k free experience is less of an issue than people being able to claim the elite diary with a low smithing level. I saw someone recently who had the task completed with a mere 75 Smithing. Does this not quality as some form of bug abuse?

Not sure I agree there. And yes, it does count as bug abuse (and I believe someone who'd been promoting it got banned for doing so) but that doesn't make it any easier to address the problem.
