Some suggestions on where to take your advertisement in 2015..
Years back I recall you advertising on Mini Clip for the first time, bringing in literally thousands of players. Statistically the majority of mini clips playerbase was very young at the time, leading to some social issues in Runescape but I digress, the game needs new blood. Many websites are just as popular today, mainly catering to apps however it is still a large group of gamers who could have interest in oldschool.
Possibly look at linking with some popular gaming sites, or perhaps becoming stable on Xbox1/ps4 built in browser - selling a "kit" with a mouse and small keyboard, 3 months membership, etc.
Players that find and enjoy Runescape on another website, will want to go to the "main" website, its only logical.
Personally I think oldschool Runescape should be branded as a retro game, you could get various internet figureheads involved on social media sites. Paying 50-100 random people a small amount per post to advertise in various places online would also work wonders.
Also - you need to advertise the crap out of free to play! im sure you can get a 3-4K f2p solely playerbase, if you advertise. Many people would make level 3 skillers, pures, etc solely on f2p, we need to get the message out to these people.Every new fan tells his friends, and his friends tell their friends, and it repeats itself.
Lastly, I think it is time for voice chat functionality for Runescape 3 and Oldschool. Even a jagex hosted TS/Vent server that is advertised in game would suffice. Players could meet up, chat, trade, boss etc. When a voice is involved players will be more likely to form connections with others making for a stronger playerbase.
--voice chat functionality would talk alot of legal stuff to put together, warning screens, disclaimers and what have you but it is something that is becoming mainstream in video games and for jagex to stay on the cutting edge the time is now
