people came back for the WAY it happend back in 07 not just the graphics
we all look back at that candlelight lure at lumbridge swamp and enjoy that memory, even if you have been pulled into that and never pulled it off.

To me Old School means "Taking it back" not just before EoC but before all the crap like the GE and balanced trade and gravestones, and raising a generation of players who look forward to the next round of run energy or lodestone updates.

The real threat to oldschool is now these same players are here thinking we have a version of the game that's for nostalgia, not meant to actually have to function the way it did back then. Feeding their nostalgia whilst adding updates that make it play more like the game they're familiar with. Killing the game in the process.

Meanwhile those of us who fight against it becoming easier get accused of being overly nostalgic, but that's faulty reasoning. We don't want it to just LOOK like oldschool and that's not why we came back. We want to play it oldschool, and when you add a massive garbage dump (the GE) it's not oldschool anymore. Regardless of what year that update originally happened, the GE was the beginning of newschool.

I really like the trading post. I'd be OK with an update to trade with others automatically ONLY if they are online and I am online.

I do
NOT
want the Grand Exchange!!!!!!!!!!!

Not having to yell anymore to trade was great back in 2007, but the GE brought all kinds of bad mechanics into the game. It fundamentally changed the game from a DIY focus to buy everything you need, buy your lvls, etc....

Oh, and now that I'm spoiled and don't have to work, how about that rwt site that will sell me gold to buy my lvls.... Can I have a side order of Loadstones with that, cause making law runes is all hard and stuff...

DO NOT WANT!

Edit after reading EoC flamers demanding GE.

Changes and updates to osrs need to be in the spirit of the Old School game. So far the new content has maintained the look and feel of the old game and added new fun features.

Saying that the new features already added means now we can add everything because it's not old school any more is an illogical argument. The issue is not that any changes have/will be made, the issue is whether the changes are in the spirit of the old game.

People who want the GE should play EoC on Legacy mode and not try to turn osrs into EoC.
I loathe the Wildy!

DIY focus? Sounds like ironman. Buy your levels? There are skills which you buy (herblore, crafting, firemaking etc.), people are obviously already doing this through zybez.

Spoiled and don't have to work, remember, buying those items for quests? Still have to do the quest. Buying items for skills? Still have to train the skill. Comparing the GE to buying gold and lodestones is a bit much don't you think?

Remember guys, this is an update which would improve so many players lives, don't banish it for some asinine mentality.

Also in favor of automated trading. I don't know about you guys but I've had a few people try to scam me so far, from switching 5k nats to 500, or switching noted dragon pl8 legs for noted red d hide legs. Scamming is more difficult nowadays but does still occur unfortunately. With automated trading, that becomes impossible, you type in what you want, the amount, and that's exactly what you get.

You attempt to refute what they said without actually making any points of your own. You just tried to act like they were wrong without any base at all. Quite redundantly you point out that buying items is only part of the process. But wait, there it is, it's PART OF THE PROCESS. You want that to not just be easier but non-existent. The difficulty behind many if not most quests lies in obtaining the items. And making such an utterly baseless assertion about how it will improve players lives (one should only speak on their own behalf by the way) and that those with differing views have an "asinine mentality" is just pathetic and pretentious.

I'm going to have to vote for GE in this one.

I started playing in 2006 and of course, playing Oldschool with the old trading system before GE was very nostalgic and it brought back good times and memories, but my nostaligia for it is over.
Too many players are scammers in the game; the Oldschool community I can say with confidence is like a man with chronic bipolar (not used to offend anyone here). Back in the day, the game was 95% noobs and 5% pros. Now, there is at least 80% of players have been playing for years and have much more experience with the game.
This is why the community was amazing back then and we all wish for it back, we had no idea what was going on half of the time! But the RuneScape community is so unstable these days as everyone is so hurt by previous updates of Jagex.

How does this relate to my reasoning for GE returning?
Well the fact that people are so experienced in the game, they think they can be deceptive, fallacious and abuse the trading system to their advantage, which creates conflict in the community. It's not having any positive effect. Adding GE would negate for the most part the ability to have this scamming culture and bring truth back into the game.
Of course, their would be less communication, but world 1 is full of auto-typers who don't care for creating relationship through this communication, but only care for their own financial benefit. I, in all honesty cringe when I log into world 1 to see the God awful culture that has been raised in this community.

I have heard the argument that it won't be Oldschool with GE. Hello? Look at all of the updates we have voted for. Half of the game isn't even Oldschool anymore, and at least we are adding an update which is part of the real RuneScape game. This then backs up the argument against the automatic trading as this feature was never in the game to begin with, so it really is less Oldschool than GE.

In the end, the GE won't ruin the game, that's in the hands of the player-base
