I don't believe that Jagex understands what "Duty of Care" means, because in a recent promotion "Catwalk: The Sameowrai!" to obtain the full over-ride of the outfit players would need from memory 21-28 keys to acquire just one of the 7 items. The promotion ran for 5 days, which meant players would need between 147-196 keys. Impossible to fulfill if you only get 3 keys per day plus whatever number you obtain through other activities. How does this reflect on Jagex's
assumptions
of what duty of care means?
However, this promotion like its previous Catwalk promotion meant that players were coerced into buying keys to acquire all pieces of the outfit as it was unlikely to be offered again. The only difference being was the previous outfit required a far greater outlay of keys as it was a randomized rewards system.
Duty of care in the gambling industry means that those who operate gambling facilities must look after its patrons by not allowing them to gamble excessively on a regular basis to the point that it creates financial pressure and to provide free counselling for gambling addiction. It is also illegal to sell or allow a person under the influence of alcohol to gamble, rather difficult for Jagex to monitor but still the law. In a sense Treasure Hunter is a form of gambling that certain patrons will through temptation buy an excessive number of keys if the reward for doing so fulfills what a player wants rather than what a player needs.
In addition, if Jagex are so concerned about being unable to implement this new method of transparency to older Treasure Hunter games, then the answer is simple scrap them altogether and start again.
My personal gripe with Treasure hunter is that Jagex will reset my request to not receive prizes in some categories without warning which results in getting xp that is unusable and redeemable at a later date for far less than the original reward.
