While this is a step in a better direction, there are some problems with the current implementation.

TL;DR - 'Duty of Care' does not actually provide a choice, despite aiming to, in a high percentage of keys.

I bought some keys and decided to try it out. These are the problems I noticed:

1. There is actually very rarely a choice despite giving me three options (i.e. There is often / always a "right choice&quot ;) -- For example a combination that regularly comes up is: Small Fallen Star (Skill A), Small Prismatic Fallen Star, Small XP Lamp (Skill A).

Obviously in this case the "right" choice is the Small Prismatic Fallen Star, since it gives the same XP as the first option, but more choice, and more xp than option 3.

This combination is *extremely common* -- I suggest making the skill specific Fallen Stars grant slightly (x1.1-1.25) more XP than the general Prismatic ones, either by reducing the Prismatics XP or increasing the specific stars reward.

An example of a better choice selection (quite rare) is - Large Bubbling Lamp, Large Fallen Star (Attack) & Small Combat Dummy Training Crate. Allowing me to choose between XP now, bonus XP dependent upon my level now, or XP at a later date of my choosing (potentially saving for DXP or a higher level)

2. Interface does not make it clear to players who are expected to make a choice, how much XP each type of lamp, star, etc. will give them -- How am I to choose between the five or six kinds of lamp? They don't all explain exactly what they do very well.

3. I cannot see where to use my hearts of ice with the current event. Is this a Duty of Care change or just part of the Loot Duels thing?

...continued below...

4. Multiple cosmetic rewards should probably be changed to just " Cosmetic Reward + x amount of oddments" rather than showing up as " Cosmetic Reward x 4" - Again to make it clearer to people exactly what they are choosing.

5. There are many items on the rare loot table that are extremely out of date. e.g. Brilliant Alchemist's Amulet Fragment. Needs updating, else this also causes confusing choices where the player has to look up every item to make sure it isn't obsolete. Does not produce good choice selection.

IMO, they should remove the chance of getting multiple cosmetics as you only ever get 1 anyways so.

1. The odds and rewards of the prizes may need a look at. Removing blind choices is nice, but I think the actual prizes are actually a bit worse than the more randomized promotions.

2. That's what in and out of the game guides are for.

3. I don't think every day is a promotion day. Regular Alice day still requires Hearts to freeze the items. Besides, some promotions like the jar one still requires hearts to freeze the already revealed prizes.

4. Oddments cashout already solved this issue actually. Jagex probably just need to put a better description to the cashout mechanisms regarding multiple unique items.

5. Some rare items are out of date but Brilliant Alchemist Fragments are not as they are used to recharge your completed Brilliant Alchemist Amulet.

I don't believe that Jagex understands what "Duty of Care" means, because in a recent promotion "Catwalk: The Sameowrai!" to obtain the full over-ride of the outfit players would need from memory 21-28 keys to acquire just one of the 7 items. The promotion ran for 5 days, which meant players would need between 147-196 keys. Impossible to fulfill if you only get 3 keys per day plus whatever number you obtain through other activities. How does this reflect on Jagex's assumptions of what duty of care means?

However, this promotion like its previous Catwalk promotion meant that players were coerced into buying keys to acquire all pieces of the outfit as it was unlikely to be offered again. The only difference being was the previous outfit required a far greater outlay of keys as it was a randomized rewards system.

Duty of care in the gambling industry means that those who operate gambling facilities must look after its patrons by not allowing them to gamble excessively on a regular basis to the point that it creates financial pressure and to provide free counselling for gambling addiction. It is also illegal to sell or allow a person under the influence of alcohol to gamble, rather difficult for Jagex to monitor but still the law. In a sense Treasure Hunter is a form of gambling that certain patrons will through temptation buy an excessive number of keys if the reward for doing so fulfills what a player wants rather than what a player needs.

In addition, if Jagex are so concerned about being unable to implement this new method of transparency to older Treasure Hunter games, then the answer is simple scrap them altogether and start again.

My personal gripe with Treasure hunter is that Jagex will reset my request to not receive prizes in some categories without warning which results in getting xp that is unusable and redeemable at a later date for far less than the original reward.

I don't believe that you understand what this "Duty of Care" update is. It is specific to this:

https://www.gov.uk/government/consultations/online-harms-white-paper/online-harms-white-paper

It has nothing to do with your "personal gripe". It is a general regulatory framework the UK Governments proposed and hope the entire world will use it eventually as a guideline to get rid of all the ONLINE HARMS. That said, online trolls? They get their butts kicked. TH? It is fine, fair and transparent, so it stays. :)
