Does anyone know when this changed? I always save up to 5 so I get some Hearts of Ice by playing 5 times but now I'm not getting extra keys. I've read all articles but there's nothing about them expiring.

Free daily keys expire every day if you don't use them. It has always been like that.

I think you are confused between free daily keys and keys you buy with real money or get from monster drop. Free daily keys expire daily if you don't use them that day. The other keys stay after the day.
