I'm about to officially release this new overlay client/platform. It basically allows webapps to run in a browser that stays on top of the Runescape client. The webapps also have access to a specialized API to get screenshots of the game. This way the apps can act as an extension of the client and offer very accurate information about what the player might need.

Examples of what it does

Anyone can add apps

The platform is completely open to other developers and fansites. It is just a browser in its simplest form. The apps are loaded from the internet and any host has access to the same functions with permission of the user.
You can also host the exact same webapps on your website without requiring the users to have this toolkit installed.

Officially allowed by jagex?

Some users are worried if it is allowed to use the toolkit, so I hope a jmod can give an official statement about this. All it does is sit above the Runescape window and take screenshots.

Hey,

Sounds nice, have you thought of hooking this up to platforms like Puush or Gyazo etc? Might be a good addition to the screenshot feature.

You said the platform is 'open', does that mean open source? If so is the code hosted somewhere? E.G. Github.

I'd be interested in having a look but I imagine it's in a language I'm not familiar with.

Alt1 has its own screenshot feature which produces a 3 character code. Alt1 user can open these screenshots by pressing alt+1 while hovering over a link like i/abc in-game.

It is not open source as I'm a bit worried about people distributing keylogged versions or using it for bots. That said, the code is in c# and not obfuscated so anyone can look at the source really. I'm also fine with sharing the code, just not to everyone.

Apps are just web pages with some extra javascript functions exposed. So you really only need html/js knowledge to make an app.

Seems really amazing and beneficial to a RuneScape player, as far as what the app can do. Something like this I hope it has strong security in mind especially when you open source it. Because if it is a app that can overlay over the RuneScape client I am sure people can look into ways that they can gain from a RuneScape player like looking at their keystrokes.

When it comes to 3rd party clients for RuneScape, Jagex don't mind certain things as long as it does not enhance a RuneScape players daily life like a boting program or micro program. Those are the things I would worry about, other then that your pretty much fine in my opinion and have something really unique to offer to the RuneScape Community.

But still keep working on this and looking for Jagex feedback, another thing I would suggest is sending them a little email just in case Matthe is busy since that is one good way to get a response from Jagex if you're in need of a quick one.

Other than that I look forward to the future of what your APP brings to fansites and the RuneScape community.
