It would be nice if, for future competitions, you would not do this.
Perhaps you could reply to the questions on the thread, give more specific details about the event, maybe, I dunno, communicate. Maybe unlock the thread sooner so we have more notice to actually plan things out. Being away is one thing, but replying to other threads on the rsof and not this one is another.
I don't even know what to say. RuneScape Wiki has a "festive fansite" that we started at the beginning of December, as we do every year, but we didn't enter since NONE of my questions were answered (even though others' were) and I thought this competition would fall through (which it pretty much did).
Lame dude.
I do agree, you guys did have a festive design and change your color & logo to a icy look. Hopefully Infinity looks into this, but you did have to submit the site in to be entered into the Competition.

Edit: Competitions like this are really fun to do and it helps bring fansites together to do something for their Community or the RuneScape Community. But I think more information should be given next time
. But this was a fun contest to do hopefully there is a Easter one

I too would like to comment on the preparation of this competition. Although this is the first competition you've run with us, this has been a recurring problem among most of the past JMods that have been in charge of fansites in the past.
When you want to get fansites to support something that Jagex is doing... or when you want to give us prizes to use in competitions, please give us way more time than you think we need to set it up. I'm sure you understand what it takes to run a fansite competition. We need to first see that there is actually a handout being given, then decide what kind of competition we can do (what, length, prizes, winning conditions, etc), choose the winners, and then relay the names to you. This takes time. Could we always do a small little something like "retweet this message" to potentially win? Sure we could, but those are not the only type of competitions we like running.
Another benefit of earlier notice is there is less chance of an issue like this competition coming up again. You posted the competition and then were out of the office for a few days. Had you posted sooner, you would have been more able to respond to questions.
Advanced notice... as much of it as possible. If you were restricted because of higher ups, please talk to your boss and let them know the above. We are fansites and we are here for the sole purpose of helping out members of the game that you run... this means wanting to support you as a company as well. We aren't out to hurt you. This means you can occasionally tell us non-super-confidential things early (cracker competition before crackers were actually released could be an example) and it won't be the end of the world. If it gives us more time to create a better competition for the public, then that means a better, more lively community which I believe is what Jagex is all about!
tl;dr more notice please

RuneHQ will post names for cracker recipients later tonight (US time).

After reading Lilroo503 amazing post I do agree what he has said, and the 1st idea contest that really popped into my head that will allow me to give away Festive Crackers in such a short time frame is a Retweet. But that is not really effective for me as there is no public information that Fansites has Christmas Crackers to give away or a JMod twitter confirmation.
I would love to have RuneScape players feel happy that this is a real Contest if I do it in a quick way. But unfortunately I am only a Bronze tier fansite and not really mention that much as a supported fansite. So this put me in a situation that really makes it hard to get the trust of RuneScapes that this is real. I truly do only need RuneScape names , but not even that can make some feel for sure that they would get.
Even thinking about this more if they do not receive their Festive Cracker this would even put me more in a bad position if I go this route. So currently I am in a spot where I don't know if I should tweet it or even give it away publicly.
The only thing I currently did on @CrusadersScape was mentioning that which still might have put me in a odd position if it does not come through.
Currently I have been reaching out to other JMods to at least publicly confirm this... But being a non mention fansite really can give a lot of speculations if it is real or not.
I do wish more information was given publicly about this or more time to do bigger things.

Edit: Just don't want to let 5 Festive Crackers I would like to give away to the Community go to waste :s... But one day to submit names is not much time to do it how I would like to.

Thanks for your feedback all, I appreciate that more time would have been useful, and for future competitions you'll have all the time in the world, but because this was specific to a holiday event we're obviously fixed to specific dates and it can therefore be difficult to give you guys an ideal amount of time.
I think that despite the time constraints you've all really involved yourself with the competition; I thought it would be nice to host an exclusive fan site event with crackers as rewards as opposed to not getting you guys involved at all, I hope that's recognized anyway.
Infinity can you make a tweet about Fansites having Festive Crackers to give away
? I know it would help a lot for me so there is no speculations, as it would be a Confirmation that CrusadersScape does have Festive Crackers to give away.
It's kind of dead (it is late and/or incredibly early for 90% of RS players atm) so I could only give away so many in a competition with so little notice. So instead, the majority have been awarded to people who help out the community, who deserve recognition.
RuneSlayer's List:
Doctor Dewk - 3 Crackers
Pastworld - 2 Crackers
Frau Koujiro - 2 Crackers
Elfangor - 3 Crackers
