RuneScape Fansites - What made you start/join one?

TL;TR: Introduce yourself, share a story about your Fansite. Share what brought you here.

________________________________________________________________________

Introduction

Having a opportunity to make a website/fansite for a game I enjoy and a Community I have a passion for. I have always been curious on what made others start a RuneScape Fansite. I know for some this can go as far back towards the creation of RuneScape and the golden days of RuneScape Classic. But what has me most curious as to why some started, what brought out that motivation to want to do a RuneScape Fansite? I know some might be obvious as far as having a passion for the game and the Community. But what truly made you want to do it and motivates you to keep doing it.

As a owner of a small fansite and new to this Fansite Community it really makes me want to get to know each and every one of the RuneScape Fansite owners. My hope is to gain a more closer friendship and bond with everyone in the RuneScape Fansite Community, so when that next RuneFest comes I won't be so alone :P . But that is indeed a whole different story and something that might be best when the next RuneFest comes.

So within this thread, whether your new to the RuneScape Fansite Community or even been here for years, tell me your experience with having a RuneScape Fansite even share some memories or best times while being apart of the Fansite your in.

My aim of this thread is to grow bonds and friendships with the players who share the same passion and interest with me and that is being apart of a Fansite, owning one and doing something for a Game and Community we all love and have a passion for.

Come on you got to have some kind of passion or love for doing this :P .

CrusadersScape Story (My Story)

Ever since playing RuneScape in my younger years and having a desire to do something more for this game, it always have been a idea in my head to make a Fansite. But during the time I never really had the money nor plans on how I would carry it out.

But over the years I started gaining the resources to start a Fansite for RuneScape but the idea to do it more started in 2012 when one of my real life close friend came on RuneScape and wanted to start a Clan. The idea behind the clan really push the idea for me to start a Fansite even more. Even my future career also help motivate me to do it and made me feel that the time to do it should be now while all the ideas I have for it is flashing in my head.

But to skip a few days forward, the idea behind CrusadersScape, has always been driven behind the goals and drive of Community Crusaders, the clan me and my Friend created. While Community Crusaders was in its active time, me and Avery(StarDate) always had a vision in our head to want to see a crowd full of RuneScape players who has the same level of passion we do for RuneScape, and that vision we had help us keep the clan going, but due to life issues and personal things blocking this vision from happening made Avery the strong support and drive for the Clan become inactive. But while I had this vision to start a Fansite for RuneScape something I always wanted to do made me drop everything and just start CrusadersScape under the Clan name that motivated me to do it.

So in April it really hit me that I started something that has my future, passion and career all around it. For me the future of CrusadersScape is a long and amazing one built with so many memories. So to be given the chance to really help and be a resource for the Community and Jagex is something that is rewarding for me. But the passion for the Community is what drives me to do it and have this amazing vision and journey for it.

My thanks for being in the Fansite forums and given the opportunity to be a Jagex supported Fansite goes to Mod Jane. Also Mod Seven was a big part of feedback for me and when he left Jagex I felt as though I lost my connection, as he was a strong supporter and great feedback on the smallest things. So a big appreciation goes to Mod Jane and Mod Seven and that is something that will always be close to my heart because if it wasn't for them during the time I doubt I would be here in these forums :) .

But with a new year and a New Fansite curator ( Mod Infinity ) :P , I see a lot of positives and a better system for newer fansites to really move up in the Fansite Support tiers :) while also giaining and providing resources for Jagex so big thanks to Infinity for really taking the time to do that. So a big appreciation goes to Mod Infinity for taking the position and working on a system that would work best for everyone.

So at the end of the day, I look at everyone in the Fansite Community as a family everyone with common goals to do something for the Game we love and express it with the passions we have.

Questions
You can choose from one of these questions to help you make a post or maybe get your brain thinking or you can just type up your own quest or reply.

Q.
As a Fansite owner what motivated you to start a Fansite?

Q.
As a Fansite staff what made you be apart of one?

Q.
What Fansite memories can you share?

Q.
How did it feel for you being a New RuneScape Fansite?

RuneHints was simple.

I had loads of knowledge on RS to begin with, our school at the time said that I need to make a poster, leaflet, website, a video on something that we knew loads about. I decided to do a website, and ran it on a free host.

A year later, it wasn't active, and was told that if I wanted to get a good grade, I would need to make it active, so I decided to get a domain, (this ended up as 2 school projects in one), and run and host a website.

I had all night, morning and most of my school day playing and doing guides etc for RuneHints. It soon became popular enough for our community to grow. When I left school, I was told that I need to dismantle the site, change the design, or pay a fine.

I decided to change the design with help from our new admin, and we got the site active, forums active, and we were well known with about 8,000 players viewing RH daily.

After our admin left and moved to a different country, things started to break to due upkeep and members started to leave. My dad went into hospital with a brain aneurism, and didn't have time do fix these bugs. RH slowly died.

when my dad came out of hospital, I started to put my effort back into RH, I learnt some PHP, HTML, CSS etc and got a new design (temp) and started to rebuild.

We then got a classic design built, started to rebuild our guides, our tools, and our community, I then was told that my step mum had cancer, and had to put RH on hold once more. She passed away 2 months ago, and I am again rebuilding our site. Starting with the community.

Thats a brief history of how and why RuneHints got started, and why we are still here today.

I just really liked the game, and I also like to help people. I started writing guides and posting them on the Tip.It forums and eventually joined the website crew.

After a couple years of working on the site it's now an absolute pleasure to be the crew leader and continue helping out players of all kinds. :)

Can't say that, I guess right up till the moment it happened, I ever saw myself in the fansite community. In retrospect, I do have a thing for community projects. I've been involved in a few groups, and I'm not the only one who went on to the fansite community (one is now an RS Wiki admin, and another was a tip.it mod for a while).

Eventually I actually got into clans. A friend I had made a while back pm'ed me out of the blue with an offer of dragon armour kits for me, and we got talking again and I found out that he and his friend were restarting their clan. I was probably in that for almost two years before that fell apart, and looking for something else, I returned to tip.it, a site I hadn't been apart of for a couple years at least by that point. I think that would be about two years ago now.

After my return I was recruited as a moderator, and eventually moved up to Administrator. It turns out that moderation is the talent I have that I can give back to the community, and I'm all to happy to do so, because it's something I enjoy and I get to meet a lot of really awesome people.
