Hey everyone, so I was just wondering who you guys think are alright to host/build a website through ?

Currently I'm using Webs and well... let's just say... in my opinion while they look all nice and good a lot of there features really just are not user friendly and there tools are not so up to date as they should be compared to some competitors... so yeah basically just trying to look for someone else that we can create/host our website through that is a bit more user friendly.

Any ideas anyone ?

Cheers,

~Mark.

Ewww, webs. D: I used them back in like 2008 for a different website. Don't use them, the feeling of creating your own website is much better.

I personally use Novahost, (are we allowed to post links in this forum? I've seen it done before)
http://novahost.com -- Their shared hosting is pretty good, and I get it for $4.76 instead of the normal rate. :P

I also heard Hawkhost is good, never used them though.

Thanks Runeaid, I'll look at both of them for sure :)

I originally chose Webs cause I'm not that goodceith HTML and CSS and stuff so I was looking for something where you have some help doing stuff I guess... I'm happy to try and learn more about HTML and stuff though :)

And yes I do believe you can post links in here since it's a private forum.

if your just starting with low traffic i recommend 000webhost which is a freehost
that offers you the basic stuff you need like (mysql, phpmyadmin,FTP account, Subdomains, Cronjobs(that can run every 5min)) you just need to dns it to your domain name or just create one free domain on their site if you just need testing
also it give you full control of the .htaccess so you can customize error pages like 404,500 or even rewrite urls say you have a script that looks like this

mysite.com/sig.php?id=1234&user=healdeal
you can turn it into something of your choosing like so for example mysite.com/signatures/1234/healdeal.png

even jagex uses .htaccess features a lot that's just some stuff you can do with them
and then if you start getting a load of traffic then upgrade to a paid host and for me the best paid host that i know is this one : http://www.bluehost.com/ also there is this one currently ranked top 1 hosting site in some media due to its prices
http://www.ipage.com/ but i never used it tough

P.s since you dont know much coding, i recommend that you use wordpress, or give me a pm ingame il give you a hand if needed

No problem, if you ever need any HTML/CSS help I could try to teach you a little. And yeah, a real host is much better than Webs due to the control. I'd personally just pay for a good shared host (as I do with Novahost) and then use that for everything until you outgrow it. And by then you'll be more experienced and able to use a VPS or something.

I highly highly highly do not recommend you use any "free" host for a number of reasons. It might be a good choice if you want to play around for your own use but you'll have more control and options available to you if you go with a regular host or even if you install a web server on your computer or a spare machine lying around.

If you're interested in creating a website where people will actually go to on the Internet, and you're lost on the whole hosting/coding/html/services dealio then I'd personally recommend an AIO like Dreamhost that will do a lot of the heavy lifting for you while still having a good deal of flexibility and support if you need it. When I was with them I paid 7/month for unlimited hosting which is not a lot.

I would not recommend using 000webhost, I used to host runeapps on there and every time i had some kind of traffic they just redirected all the visitors to their ad page and gave me a the excuse of using to much cpu on static content. After a couple times they locked my account and didn't allow me to redirect the free subdomain unless i paid.

I'm currently hosting on a dutch host (http://www.versio.nl/) for $0.40/mo (LOL). They give me 20Gb bandwidth and I haven't had any trouble yet, they even did some port-forwarding for me. Kinda outgrowing the 20Gb atm and I need some advanced features which they don't offer, so I'm looking for a different host.

We use Invision Power Board to host our site. To be honest I think they are very good - the system is pretty customization with plenty of plug-ins to add features for zero to minimal cost. Support is great as well - it is 24/7 and a few times we needed critical support we got it within minutes. A basic site costs $20 a month, which is good for several hundred members at least. Check-out our site (runetime) and remember pretty much every page required almost zero programming skills.

I use IPB for my fansite as well, no problems so far.

Hi,

I started making websites a longgg time ago and the first hosting I used was 000webhost. When you start learning HTML, I wouldn't advice to get a paid hosting at first. 000webhost is free: 99% uptime, 100GB Bandwith, 1.5 GB disk space. (if you want a forum, i'd suggest MyBB. phpBB is too heavy for this host)

When you want to get premium hosting, you might want to consider Hosting24. You pay let's say $5 p/month and get a free domain name, Unlimited bandwith and disk space, 99,9% uptime, unlimited e-mail accounts, etc. etc.

I personally use Hostinger since a few days, as it's dutch.

Hop this info helped a bit although you might have found another host already from other posts. :)
