Fun events are not very popular anymore. There are not much players left who will dress up fancy costume and walk from Lumbridge to Falador just for fun. They think its exp/time waste and see no real profit there. Even though there is – joy from player interraction what is the main objective of MMOs.
If you want to host an great fun event then you have to be very creative and make it pretty fun promising or guaranteee some good rewards which you will donate to the winners after the event.
During the event:
ACTIVE COMMUNICATION
- between the organizer and players - event coordination
+ among the attending players as well
Good atmosphere is other key element for seccessful event. Even if the event do not reach its goal – e.g. you lose the minigame or dont get valuable drops from bosses the event can still turn out as great one if the players are enjoying it. If you are not much talkative, try to have some other chatterbox there.
Twitch streamers are usualy an adventage. It allows the players who cant or hesitate to attend to live through the event and theroretically attend it as well.
Event ending and recapitulation:
As an organizer you should know when is the best time to end the event. If its a fun event or some low-benefit activity(e.g. Giant Mole killing), make it short (10-30 min, depends on circumstances). If you see poeple do like it, the event can be running even whole night. With event duration scaling you can make also less interresting activities fair atrractive.
Its contributive if you resume the event in a topic on community froums or via social media as well. Write shortly what happend, include some pictures or video. Its always easier to sum up an successful event. When the other community members read through it they just say: „Dang, why I wasnt there?! Next time I wont miss it“. If the event didnt run so well as expected, recap it as well. You can then better analyze its problems and avade them next time.
