I think it's time to post some feedback about the Fansite support recently. Please note that I can't and won't try to speak for everyone here - but I guess most situations will be similar.

Also, as english is not my first language, please bear with any misstakes I might make. I don't want to blame any specific Mods, as I am well aware that some things are simply out of control of CM. We usually tell our criticism directly here in germany - so will I do now as well. :P

If there happens to be a Fansite Meetup on Runefest 2017 , I'd appreciate if some of these points will get attention.

1. Communication

Currently there seems to be little to no communication with Fansites from Jagex side, offering support to us. Of course we can ask - but it seems the answers always need a little poke through Twitter to be sent, if at all.

This section of the forums should be a way to get in touch with Jagex, but it seems to have been given up. Emails often take a long time to be answered, raising the feeling of being ignored, unless you pester someone asking what happened about it.

While I understand you can't immedeatly answer to everything, I'd appreciate slightly raising the priority of communication with Fansites. I feel like being officially supported means, you should have a slightly higher priority - and therefore I should not have to wait for weeks for a simple "nope" or "maybe".

2. Support

The last act of Fansite Support in general, that has been offered to all of us by Jagex themselfes, was an invitation to the RS documentary premiere in january 2016.

Since then, it seems our only options are to either ask for Bonds as prices of events or getting an event-broadcast in the system.

This is great to spread word about events you are doing and your site in general, but we as a content-based foreign language site with a rather small team prefer to focus on content, that will support our german playerbase. You would be surprised how many players there are that say they cannot speak english and therefore won't be able to use any of the english sites instead. (Google Translate really is awful most of the time)

I don't want to miss out on mentioning we have received some Bonds recently for an event - which is really awesome. What was the event about? Getting some new content for our site, to motivate players to participate and contribute to our site.

Content-based Fansites need more than just this. I won't list all the things we would like to have, but can do if requested. By now, at least Jagex should already know what we'd like to have. :P

2.1 The Wikian

I don't want to offend the contributors of the RS-Wiki nor the Mods who worked on the title regarding this, but I still feel strange about it.

When it was first released, I was not sure about what to think about the act of giving a single Fansite a title.

If this is an act of Fansite support, other titles or benefits should have been given out already (at least to the other approved sites) at this point, but nothing happened.

If this was an act to improve the relationship between Jagex and the site, which seemed to be pretty bad as what I heard in 2015, well... it seems strange to me.

For now, I'll think of it as we were told - an act of appreciation for the hard work the site does. Though, this leaves a bitter taste, as no other Fansite has been given this treatment until now. I wouldn't even mention this, if I had seen anything happen for at least the other approved sites. Right now, it raises a feeling of unfairnes.

3. General Feedback

A lot of support we did receive and communication we have is done via the german localisation team, who do an awesome job on that, even though they are not in CM. Their support is invaluable, but I need to seperate what they do from what CM does or could do.

I feel like much of the offers Jagex did has been cancelled as not a lot of Fansite decided to take advantage of it, therefore they finished offering things like Runefest-Tickets. Part of this seems to be due to the lack of communication that was done - and part of it as things like the premiere we have been invited to was in London and many of Fansite Staff live in other countries.

I'd love to see stuff like this return - and something for the more content-based fansites too. Concept art is great, but won't take away from the work we have to do anyway to explain content.

Currently I am setting up a Discord for Fansite Staff, if there is any interest from both sides - CM and Fansite staff. When I'm finished setting it up, I will edit an invitation in.

What are your opionions on the current support? I know, Jagex is not forced to do anything for us - though I feel Fansite Support should be more than a few Bonds every now and then.
