btw, since this may be a better place to find out, what/where exactly are these 'safe deaths' i figure DG is one of them but where else?

As for safe deaths, I think this player (who replied to your thread on the public forums) is correct:

Original message details are unavailable.
Anything that doesn't give you a Gravestone (or makes you drop your items in any way) is considered safe.
