I've looked but can't find anything on it. There are a variety of ghosts/souls in the game. And spirits like in nature spirit. Maybe depending on the God they hailed? And then there's Icthlarin!

So, is there a set RS lore on this or nah?

For the longest time we didn't know anything about the RS afterlife, but more recently Jagex has given us a good bit of information.

I recommend doing the quest Missing, Presumed Death - afterwards you'll receive a lore book that will give you some information (while still leaving certain things mysterious).

Even more recently, as of the quest Nomad's Elegy, Jagex seems to have decided to forgo all mystery - Nomad's Elegy basically tells us everything about the afterlife.

If Nomad's Elegy is a bit beyond your reach, I'll be happy to sum up what we learned there, but I do suggest you do Missing, Presumed Death, at least (since it's a Novice quest and should be accessible for you).
The Asgarnian ale must flow.

There's also a little bit of information in the World Wakes and the 2015 Halloween Event. Since the latter is no longer accessible, I'll share the information it contained.

"Amascut was once responsible for rebirth, but now Icthlarin must fulfil that duty as well as his own. This is why it has become increasingly rare for a soul to be reincarnated. Most of my knowledge comes from personal experience, but it would seem people are usually reincarnated as cats. You may have heard of Robert the Strong or my friend Neite who was a priestess of Amascut as well. Both of them also became cats after their rebirths. I wonder how many other cats out there are just waiting for someone with a Catspeak Amulet to speak to them..."

"Observations on Prayer
Ah, how naive the inhabitants of this world are! Most of them seem to believe that when they pray to their god he or she looks down upon them and grants them their blessing... Hah! The thought tickles my stomach. Oh yes, Saradomin is just sitting around waiting for people to bury bones so that he can show him his gratitude. What peculiar logic!

Little do they know the power possessed by the dead. When they bury their bones they actually commune with the spirits, drawing upon their power by giving them a proper burial. This power can be channeled by the skilled to gain boons or even - conversely - create curses, which are often taught within a school of thought represented by a god. Perhaps this is where their followers' beliefs come from? Alas, I do not pretend to be interested in the thoughts of lesser minds.

Of course, a better burial will gain more favour with the spirits, hence altars or the ectofuntus providing more effective methods in becoming skilled in prayer."
The legendary creators have been long gone from this world. When they return, they'll be surprised and angered of their creations' new sapience. Meanwhile, the world's most elite, summoned to be its guardians, have abandoned their purpose and intend to plunge the world into chaos. -- Bionicle or RS?

"The Ectofuntus
Given my previous observations, I have finally discovered the perfect place for a new ectofuntus. I shall build it on the banks of the River Noumenon! The process of mixing bonemeal with ectoplasm is utilised to link the realms of the living and the dead, so where better to do this then on the boundary between those two realms? There is also a constant supply of ectoplasm from all the ghostly activity. Yes, the process will be most effective here.

The key, though, is the ectofuntus itself. The structure draws spirits towards it, creating a well of souls at which to mix the aforementioned ingredients. Praying at the well allows a connection with the dead to be formed, similar to that of a séance. The most effective method of harnessing prayer I have found.

N.B. It has come to my awareness that a select few are beginning to realise the power of the dead. Clearly Amascut has already discovered this, consuming enough souls to earn herself the title of The Devourer, but I have also heard rumours of another. One I fear has even grander goals..."

This last part if foreshadowing for Nomad's Elegy.
And if you haven't done it yet, Ghosts Ahoy will explain what the Ectofuntus is.

That does not directly relate to the afterlife, and Necrovarus is a heathen Eastern Lands priest. You know the Easterners don't believe in the gods. I pray daily that Saradomin show him to be a liar.

I also despise Necrovarus' notes, but not because i'm a Saradominist or anything.

Anyway Icthlarin goes into detail about some of the afterlives he knows of in Nomad's elegy. They are shaped by the beliefs of the souls within them, so there are indeed different afterlives for the followers of different gods.

Off the top of my head Saradominists go to a place that's essentially Heaven, Zamorakians go to a place where they fight to be the strongest and take a throne, but there are infinite thrones all the way up, Serenists join in some sort of harmonious song, Guthixians and Godless go to Limbo, Bandosians go to a place of eternal warfare, Armadyleans lose their individuality in some eternal community (from what I can remember), and he doesn't know where Zarosians go.
-
I have noticed your kind does tend to blindly stumble forward towards danger simply because it exists. What is your word for that?
- We call it being a hero.

The fact that you can follow any god, no god, or a dead god and still have access to the same prayers at the same efficacy is pretty clear indication that the power of prayer originates elsewhere than the gods.

If you're gonna roleplay, that's cool, but don't twist the lore so that you're lying to new players who are just trying to get into it.

I don't see where I twisted or lied. Necrovarus is an Eastern Lands priest, they don't believe in the gods, and I was saying I hope Necrovarus' Notes end up being revealed to be untrue.

I'm not saying that Necrovarus got all the details right, but its fairly clear that the gods play no part in the power of prayer (or Godless and Bandosian players and NPCs wouldn't be able to use such prayers), and that the power one draws upon for prayer comes from a third party source.

Now considering Necrovarus has had some experience being a dead person and observing other dead people, I'd say that it is fairly unlikely that he's wrong about the power coming from the spirits of the dead.

That being said, I'd say that it would be accurate to state that gods play a part in how we use that power via their teachings. This is described in Necrovarus's notes and is reinforced by the existence of the Ancient Prayers and their ability to be used by non-Zarosians/Serenists who have learned how to channel the power to appropriate ends.

And, personally, I like that since it leaves room for other potential future schools of prayer outside of modern and ancient to potentially be added in the future.
