How Would This Look as Canon or Semi-Canon?

Here is a list of some of the changes I have introduced in this thread to RuneScape's lore.

- First, there is always a cost to developing lore, because telling a story one way means that you have chosen not to tell the story in other ways. Of course, this cannot be avoided if we want to tell stories at all. Thankfully, what I've proposed in this thread is simply one tradition of historical and magical thought and may be contradicted by other traditions and stories without problems.

- These stories give us a certain account of Ikov, Armadyl's arrival, and much of Gielinor during a period of time in the 2nd age. Maybe the most prominent cost to future story-telling is this: Armadyl and Ikov passed through Misthalin and Asgarnia before Saradomin established his empire there - we had no reason to think this before. They also had a strange, passing encounter with the Stone of Jas, or some illusion of it. It is unclear whether they met V while they stayed with the Fremennik.

- There was no civilization of delicate creatures on the summit of Ice Mountain during the time of Ikov, as Juna suggests.

- Zaros made an earlier attempt to conquer Gielinor, by ruling through spirits and from shadow, before his all-out assault with legions of demons; it is likely that Draynor was one of the vampyres who ruled the woodland on Zaros' behalf.

- During the time of Ikov, there was a nation of sea-folk along the southern coast of Misthalin between where the Wizards' Tower and Port Sarim stand today, as well as near present-day Rimmington; Lumbridge swamps were submerged or unformed; ancestors or predecessors of today's Asgarnians inhabited the region of modern-day Asgarnia; a nation of woodsmen lived in what is today Draynor forest and in cities on and around Ice Mountain; moors made up part of the southwestern wilderness; Forinthry was largely unsettled - Armadyl and Ikov did not explore central or western Forinthry but found only some Asgarnians near Annakarl and some Fremennik along the northern coast and near Ghorrock; the Fremennik lived in the same region as they do today; the people of the region of modern Kandarin lived in a large and politically sophisticated nation, enjoying good relations with gnomes and dwarves, who also lived near where they live today; there was a bog in the region of modern-day Hemester; the regions of today's Seers Village and Yanille were largely unsettled; there was a nation of skavids in the Feldip Hills; and there was a rocky promontory and a strange portal to be found at the delta of the Dougne.

- Regarding the spirits, either the image of the black knight or the spirit of the black knight itself has influenced the modern black knights of Asgarnia; there is no name for the strange beasts upon which Ikov and the black knight rode; Armadyl did not slay Vorago but another spirit, called Humus in the Ikovian Hymns, that inhabited the same body of rock; the spirit in the west, called Hubris in the Ikovian Hymns, took draconic form millennia before dragons were known on Gielinor or perhaps even created by the dragonkin - spirits can do that; when Ikov banished Hubris, he brought to an end Zaros' first invasion of Gielinor and also earned Zaros' respect for humans ever after.

- There are likely Troglodytes to be found in the multiverse, as well as a dwarven temple to Guthix hidden in a pocket dimension, and maybe some ruins of Strite to be seen with the ring of visibility.

- The Ikovian hymns provide a partial account of why there are large, painted stones standing up northeast of Falador - they reflect a tradition of the ancient, indigenous population of Asgarnians.

- There were schools of mysticism. The story of Strite ensures that all human magical knowledge wasn't lost during the ridiculously long timeline of RuneScape's lore. The story of Strite also gives us a reason to honor and to learn more about Camorra. The schools also provide a context for traditions of religious, historical, and magical thought - in which theories of planes, anima, and magic ought to be developed. It is perhaps too late to add a University of Menaphos, complete with a department of metaphysics, references to Muh, and plenty of Magi Muhbars. There's also lore here for the mystic robes and opportunities for more sets of mystic robes in the future.

- Given the depth made possible by such an extensive tradition, shallow accounts of magic, anima, and planes ought to give way to more sophisticated accounts. For example, the Moon Clan's account of the origin of the runecrafting altars or the Swiss cheese model of the planes ought to be abandoned or reinterpreted.

The Original RuneLabs Suggestion with which I Wanted to Introduce All This Lore

[RL] Ikov Lore Quest

This was written as a fifth age quest, but may be adapted for the sixth age.

Some background lore: In the early years of the fifth age, around the same time the Carnilleans rose up against Hazeel in the region of modern-day Ardougne, three other families rose to power in northeastern Kandarin. The Catherbys ruled over the region that has become the town of Catherby. The Sinclairs ruled over their modern day holdings, as well as the castle now called Camelot. And the Sotherbys ruled over the region of what what has become the Seers Village and the sorcerer's tower.

The story begins with Thormac, whose full name is William Thormac Sotherby, IV: the current head of the Sotherby family. Ever since an agreement with the kingdom of Kandarin divided the lands of the Sinclairs and Sotherbys, King Arthur has ruled over Camelot, and authority over the village of Sotherby has been given to the local council of seers; for which reason the village has come to be known as the Seers Village. Freed from his administrative duties, Thormac has turned to employing the wealth of his aristocratic family in foreign investments: he was a major financial backer of the Piscatoris fishing colony. Now he's looking into another investment in the west: a small resort town, to compete with Oo'glog, featuring snowboarding on the northwestern slopes of Eagle's Peak, beautiful sunsets on the beach, and, built on a cliff overlooking the western ocean, the majestic ruins of a long forgotten, massive, Armadylean temple - complete with gothic arches and stone perches for the Aviantese in ages past. The town inherits its name from the temple's name in the second age: Kathekontos.

Thormac's grand niece, Hinea Sotherby, lives with him in the Sorceror's Tower. Having grown up next door to the mysterious Temple of Ikov, and having discovered little from all of her researches into its past, her great uncle's new investment affords an opportunity to explore the ruins and uncover the forgotten story of Armadyl and Ikov in the second age. Thormac hopes this history will help to draw tourists to the town and asks a helpful adventurer to meet Hinea there, and by seeking the aid of the surviving guardians of Armadyl to reconstruct the stories depicted on the stone panels preserved in the temple.
