III.6.4 The 6th Age
(1) Following the death of Guthix, the Edicts have been described as a "physical barrier" - a clear indication of how far modern magic has strayed from the theory of dimensional barriers developed during the time of High Mysticism. And anima itself has been mistaken for the green glow in places throughout the world. A mystic might describe this new phenomenon as a manifest reaction of the world to the disappearance of one of its most prominent animating spirits. In other words, the green glow indicates the presence of anima but is not anima itself.
(2) The spirits remaining in Gielinor prompt the world to show its longing for reorientation, orientation toward further spirits that will fulfill the role Guthix played in guiding its natural processes. Just as a sorcerer of ancient times might expect, human mages have contributed to this process by bringing visible manifestations of memories to those places where the world reveals its need. They thereby reintroduce the spirits mediated by those memories into the world, re-animating and restoring the life of the world lost with Guthix.
(3) This process might be compared to grieving. After the death of a loved one, the spirits governing activities all around oneself are thrown into disarray. One does not know how to act in accord with the spirits without the presence or the contribution of the loved one lost. Objects previously integrated into certain activities stand out as no longer fitting within those activities in the same manner. It takes time to redistinguish within memories ways of acting that belong to the past and ways of acting fit for the future. By doing so, the wounds are healed.
(4) In addition to the advent of divination, the 6th age has also seen the spirits of Vorago and Telos come forth to defend the world, as well as advances among human mages in portal dynamics, astromancy, and invention.
