You know, I rather liked Tomlin's story. He started off a rather fire and brimstone sort of preacher whom I initially disliked, but he really came around in the end (his Ports story and the Trio Voyage with the Convict and the Biologist were both quite enjoyable).

I hope we get access to the Skull next year, said trio of Ports Adventurers really had a major impact on Hyu-ji.

YESSSSS!!!! I'm REALLY hoping that the Skull is one of the Expansions.

I would totally love a Skull Region Expansion :D

Also hoping we get Player Owned Ports V4 next year!!!

~Portmaster Kags ;)

I wanna go to The Scythe region. Cuz that area make me think of Japan in Sengoku period.

The Biologist.

(Meeting The Biologist)

Player: So, that's all of it! A crate of amphibians, two filing cabinets of bugs, twenty cages of birds and a bucket of sea monster dropping.

The Biologist: Oh deary, deary me. This won't do. Where's the scientific breakthrough?

Player: You've got to be kidding! I've got a cargo-hold wriggling with new species!

The Biologist: Yes, yes, yes very lovely, and you can be proud of your efforts. But where's the prize-winning find? I don't suppose you came across a cradle of life? Proof that we're all descended from alge?

Player: Well, I came across a walking shark...

The Biologist: Pedestrian!

Player: A turtle that could see into the future...

The Biologist: Expected!

Player: A plant that drilled into the ground...

The Biologist: Boring!

Player: A half-human, half-fish race...

The Biologist: Aah, that might have legs. Human mutants. They'd likely have a developed physiology, potential diseases resistance. And I can see the title now. 'Sea Mutants: Aberration or Evolution?' Oh, that is super-duper.

Player: I take it you're interested in the sea orphans, then?

The Biologist: Great gravy-boats yes! But hold that thought! I'm off to get funding from the museum. The name's Bethan by the way. See you in a jiffy!

(Documentary Evidence)

Beginning.

Player: Ah, you're back.

The Biologist: With funding, empty notebooks and a photo booth imp! Let's go! Let's go!

Player: Are you sure you're ready?

The Biologist: Never been readier! I'm the Queen of Readiness. People pass me on the streets and say,'Gosh, isn't that young lady ready?'

Player: You should know that it's not safe in the Eastern Lands. There are sea monsters, pirates and sirens...

The Biologist: Yes, yes, but they're not scientifically significant. These sea fans..

Player: Sea orphans.

The Biologist:....they'll make it all worthwhile. And if we have a few adventures, well, that's just jolly. Good Guthix, we need to get going before I pop with excitement!

Ending.

Player: My captain tells me that you enjoyed your cruise.

The Biologist: Cruise? Fiddlesticks! This was raw, unbridled science! And it'll remain raw if I can't get closer to the subjects.

Player: The people.

The Biologist: I need to be in among. Poking and prodding- metaphorically, of course. Plans need to be made. Oh, goodness me, I haven't been this excited since I contracted that rare strain of typhus!

(Specimens in The Wild)

Beginning.

Player: Back again, Bethan? I see you've already dumped your gear on the captain.

The Biologist: Yes! Instruments, specimen jars, examination tables science gubbins. All of it! Wait! I forgot the sample dishes! Gah, I bet they're still at home, full of fungi.

Player: Slow down. Where are you going, and what are you planning to do?

The Biologist: I'm building a lab! Don't worry, the sea orphans have offered to help. Your men can just drop me off. The orphans told me a story. If it's true, it could be scientifically significant. They mentioned something of their sorcerer- Fina, I think his name is. If what they say is correct, his mutation is great scientific interest.

Player: What does that have to do with me?

The Biologist: He's been kidnapped by Blazing Lantern pirates. They normally leave sea orphans alone, but they found his appearance amusing. He's covered in spines like a puffer fish. The pirates strapped him to the front of their ship, a figurehead. He's still alive, all told. Recover him from the pirates, would you? I'm an epidemiologist and toxicologist by trade, and a poisonous human would be huge of interest to me and the world.

Player: And, of course, we should save him regardless.

The Biologist: Yes, yes. Now, where did I put my alembic?

Ending.

The Biologist: The lab's built and Finia's back! Let the science begin! Oh, I plucked a spike from Finia when he wasn't looking, and I've been doing tests. He's as poisonous as my ex-husband! That's really poisonous, by the way. As in, my husband was odious - not that he could adverse chemical reactions within the substance of organism.

Player: I'm glad the operation was a success.

The Biologist: Believe me, my operations are just beginning. I'm getting some fantastic data from the orphans; their immune systems in particular. I'll perform a few more tests, and I'll be back before you can say 'plasmodium faciapalmae'!

(The Scientific Method)

Beginning.

The Biologist: Yes, yes, yes! This is it! My defining moment! Leg-a-cy! Leg-a-cy!

Player: What are you talking about?

The Biologist: The subjects...the orphans..they have a lower incidence of illness than you or I.

Player: That's no real surprise. They're hearty a bunch.

The Biologist: But I've crunched the numbers and the secret's in their mutations! Something in their physiology, has been accepting of their mutations, and changed they body to accommodate it. Their bodies should have been a battleground between fish and human, but instead of war - and death of subject - there has been peace! The two side, fish and human are accepting each other! Now, think - if we could encourage this ability in human subjects, then the body could be accepting of other diseases and poisons. We wouldn't have to fight disease; it would live harmlessly with us! Zombism, Vampyrism, all repressed!

Player: That sounds like a noble goal. What can I do to help?

The Biologist: Well...I'm glad you asked. I need a test case.

Player: What? Deliberately infect a sea orphan?

The Biologist: Under controlled conditions, and for the sake of all sentient life! Finia has agreed to be my test subject, and I promise you'll get acknowledgment in my book.

Player: If Finia's okay with it, then I can't see a problem. What do you need from me?

The Biologist: There's a plague ship in the Scythe. The islands leave it well alone - even the sea monsters avoid it. I need help to get me some samples...mop a corpse's brow, that sort of thing.

Player: Wait - how do I stop my crew from getting infected?

The Biologist: Your crew won't go near the ship. I'll paddle out, in a sealed suit, and do the job myself.

Player: Okay, but our lives are in your hands. I trust you'll be careful.

Ending.

Player: I hope you know what you're doing, Bethan.

The Biologist: Absolutely! An entire world living in harmony with their diseases. Ooh, it's like a science fiction novels! It gives me the shivers.

Player: I hope you're right. I'm told Finia's not looking too great.

The Biologist: It's all within parameters! You can't become a farmer without diseasing a few onions.

Player: I'm not convinced the metaphor works, but I think I understand you. Keep an eye on him.

(The Act of Observing)

Beginning.

Player: Bethan! What have you done? The sea orphans are dying of the plague!

The Biologist: But I had strict control of the place! I don't understand! Everything was sealed...

Player: And didn't you say that the sea orphan were immune to the plague?

The Biologist: Resistant! The plague itself must have mutated - learned to hurdle their resistances. Oh, if I wasn't feeling exceptionally guilty. I'd be marveling at it.

Player: The orphans are dying, Bethan.

The Biologist: I know! I know! Let me think. It's a new manifestation, lateral bubbles with fever; it reminds me of something...Of course! Jailer's Pox! The symptoms and the bubbles, they're virtually identical. If it's similar enough, we might be able to stop it. The Pox has a cure; a rare flower called the acralis. If I could get enough of it...

Player: Hey, they have that in the Eastern Lands! My men wear it as a good luck charm. It's found in the Bowl region. We have a plan, then. I have a crew stationed and waiting for you.

The Biologist: I kept the lab door locked, I promise. This was not an accident. Someone wanted to hurt the sea orphans, and I intend to find out who it was.

Ending:

The Biologist: It worked, it worked. Goodness, I'm tired. I could do with a long soak.

Player: Have you got any idea of who spread the disease out of the quarantine?

The Biologist: I'm afraid not. I wish science was capable of a truth serum - then I'd be of help.

Player: Still, be vigilant. Whoever did it wants sea orphans dead and has access to your lab.

The Biologist: I will be more careful. And I've burnt all the plague samples. Whoever did this will have to find another avenue of attack.
