I am mostly happy with how the events played out in the 6th age. We saw a lot of major events occur with the Gods reemergence, World Events and Sliskes game.

I dislike how some events were determined by us, Battle of Lumbridge, Bird and the Beast, Tuska Comes, only to be scrapped. World Events were great and brought the community together to do something we never have before. WE1 and WE2 I would say were very good and fun, but WE3s failure made them go a different direction. The Tuska Event could have been incredible had it had more attention and updates over the course of it.

I do feel bad for supporters of Zaros, Zamorak, Seren and Bandos as they became vilified or antagonists for the main plot. I think most of these decisions were made due to the popularity of Saradomin and Armadyl in their World Events. Even though nothing was to be given to the Godless for their "victory" in WE3. (this could have been handled better).

The Gods have always been the more popular characters of the game and I feel like not all of the deaths were necessary to elevate the storyline. Although I believe the more "popular" Gods were spared. Guthix dying hit a lot of people hard, but the way and formulation of how this was done was very well executed. I think V's character was interesting and could have served somewhat of a "replacement" for Guthix but he was used as a plot catalyst to display what the mirror could do, even though his return was hyped for months and could have been new blood to the God storyline.

I also feel the Pantheon should have played more of a role in these events as major Gods. (aside from Icthlarin). We are in a new age now and still no return for Tumeken or Eldinis who are the prominent Gods of the Pantheon who havent had their story.

And the outer gods such as Queen of Ashes or Gods met by V in other worlds havent been explored. ( Whats the deal with Xau-Tak now?)

More should have been elaborated on with the Gods before they were removed.

Correction as a lore hound here, and a Godless member,

1. Kara-Meir is not the leader of the Godless, She's a co-founder yes, but the real founder/leader is Biehn. (Plus under her would mean she convinced Saradomin and was their representative in the Council. She was not.)

To add, the two sides of the Godless did indeed get what they want, Some of the gods are dead, at least the ones that they would have wanted dead. While the Edicts returned without much bloodshed, minus Zamorak's invasion.

2. This wasn't technically a new god war, it was hinted a lot that it could have started at any time, it was it was of a conflict that didn't do much. (Mod Raven before called it more of a cold war.)

3. On V's statement, Guthix did go to war, or more so battled against some gods when he was evicting them out of Gielinor, remember the Edict when Guthix did it was a event that happened over time, not a all in one go.

I agree that the concepts for WE1 and 2 were fine.
WE3 would have been better as a quest.

Mod Osbourne and others had already mentioned that they wanted to bring in/back Zaros and that led to discussions of what it would take and basically meant that they would really have to do something about Guthix.
So in game and out, the made a narrative decision that marked a new age.

I wouldn't call the presentation of Bandos' to be off. He was what he was. He was always someone that loved to fight.
Zamorak's personality has always been presented as someone who seemed to have something to prove. To be honest, the conflicting nature of what he preached and the reality of the end result were never really going to mesh. You had to have a certain mindset to go along with his philosophy. When you're long lived like a demon or majarrat, it is easier to live the lifestyle he proposes.

I do agree that making Seren the final villain seemed off.

Part of the issue we run into with Runescape is that you have a game that is constantly updated and with diff devs at every turn.

When you had 1 dev working on a storyline and being able to work on it over a certain period of time, you are able to be very consistent in what you present.
Take the Zanik storyline thru Chosen Commander or the Void Knight Quests.
Or in most games, the central storyline is set well in advance like the script in a movie. Yes, elements are changed as production goes along, but it still stays consistent. And side quests are added as the rest of the devs have time.

But the whole 6th Age was never done by a single dev ... or at least the quests that centered on "the war" and "what it means to be the world guardian".

The run up to Sliske's Endgame, they were able to be consistent(ish) because the devs were like "we're doing 3-4 quests to finish off the storyline" but you still had different groups of devs working on each of the quests.

Then you jump to the Elder God Saga and it too comes off as disjointed. Though they still did a much better job of keeping it all tied together.

But it would also explain why over the course of 10 years, you had a major deviation in how the characters were presented. Especially when man of the devs left and newer ones came on.

As a devout Saradominist I am very happy that his redemption is shown in such a manner in the last quest he appears in. Though I am not happy with the new Edicts of Guthix and how they dropped the power scaling I can live with it.

The one thing I do not like about the new Edicts is that it doesnt leave much room for the Gods to return in future story lines should the devs wish it so. The mystery behind the disapearence of Zaros in Erebus and the mystery surrounding that place, not to mention the ''sixth Elder god'' is left open, I think intentionally as it fits the Zaros story. But if said mystery is to be explored again the edicts must be lifted.. but it isnt explained how? Killing the caster aka the player like with Guthix or are these edicts permanent?

I agree that the Sixth Age could have brought more quests showing off other Gods. The desert pantheon for instance as named by others here.

I disagree that how Seren turned out is weird, I think it fits the bill quite easily. She is protecting her own kind. I'd only wish we learned more about the new Elder Gods a bit more.

But the inclusion that the Daughter of the One True God rules Gielinor is great for the Saradominist faction. Strength through Order! Strength through Wisdom! The light will conquer all.
The Light of Saradomin shall guide me

So many thoughts. I'm not sure where to start.

I remember so vividly the day Zamorak stepped through the portal in Lumbridge and Saradomin appeared to confront him. That world event was really awesome and I met many amazing players at the time- all sharing our love of RS lore- though it often got a bit heated here in the forums lol

As a player I always loved the quests that alluded to the RS Gods. I started playing in 2006, so to finally meet Guthix (devastated at his death),Zamorak and Saradomin was totally mind-blowing! I was so excited for the sixth age and what stories we might get for the Gods. I love World Event 1 and 2 (though no God should have been killed that early). The addition of the Heralds was really great at first- but I wish they had done more with declaring for a faction.

Jagex tried to make the Gods more balanced in their personalities and give them all positives and negatives- it was very clunky but I appreciated the effort.

I love all of the Gods as characters but I was an Armadylean prior to the 6th age events and still am now- I do feel the game overlooked Armadyl a lot, especially when the story moved beyond Sliske's games and focused on the ElderGods.

Seeing the new Edicts get established was upsetting to be honest, I don't want the gods to be gone. (Though I admit there has been some good stories with the Zamorakian civil war etc) I kinda hate how Jagex have forced Saradominism on us all (essentially) but I especially feel bad for the Zamorakians- their side are back to being the bad guys again.

I do hope we can see them again sometime! We have the world gate and can access other worlds and I see no reason we can't visit them elsewhere. (It does feel like the world gate has been forgotten)

I wish things were different.
Love the Lore and the RS Gods!

Very concise summary.
I still weep for the loss of Guthix a decade later. The gods for all their intentions brought nothing but death, conflict and ruin to Gielinor. Hopefully the Edicts remain in place this time and may they never return.

Edit: Also regarding Seren, whether she is evil or not requires shifting your perspective. I too would go to the ends of the earth and back to save the last of the ones I loved and could call family. She was doing what was in the best interest for her own kind. Morally ambiguous considering a world had to be sacrificed, but that's nature. And nature doesn't care about morals.
Perhaps there were other options, perhaps there was not enough time. Freneskae didn't have the anima needed to sustain the rebirth, Iaia was the only realm known of that I suppose Seren was willing to sacrifice.
Regardless, better Iaia than Gielinor I suppose...

I feel like there's a bit of a glaring problem in the loss of world guardian powers and the new edicts.

Namely in that, presumably Zaros is probably trying to use shadow anima to become an Elder God.
Shadow anima is proven to be toxic to conventional anima and likely could be used to nullify, or even pierce the new edicts.
Without any protection, I fail to see what's stopping Zaros from eventually returning anyway. Plus, say what you will about him, but he's certainly stubborn, and isn't afraid to apply a raw unrestricted scientific method to achieve his goals, out of any God, Zaros is certainly the most capable of finding a way past the edicts - he technically partially already did in the Senntisten quest, all the way from Freneskae, as a whisper of his former self.

That's assuming he isn't an Elder God, if he is he could probably just straight up brute force his way through, same with Jas.... and well... narratively speaking, it'd be a whole lot more interesting if he actually succeeds, so for that reason I'm going to assume he does. It'd be a bit of a dead fish to go through all of that, just to say "and then he never did anything noteworthy again".

There's still Xau, Amascut and other deities actively out for player blood too... we're gonna need more than a defence cape to work that one out.
Maybe we will have to pull a Nomad/Orcus and use necrotic souls to become divine-adjacent.
Realistically, The adventurer right now is just asking to get jumped, jagex set the stakes too high, the bar cannot be reset just like that, there's too many pawns on the board now.
We need wg powers back, or an alternative solution.
I mean, personally I don't mind being an immortal necromancer but I doubt that's on the table, unfortunately.

Amascut and Xau are especially threatening as they are on Gielinor, edicts or not.

Jagex's solution has only actually made the situation even more dire. I propose just having our powers eventually 'recharge'. There's no actual harm in them.
