So the new quest following the events of Desperate Times has been announced and is coming out in July.

It's a place North East of Daemonheim that can currently be seen on the world map.

Part of the newspost said:
"By the way, last week’s Land Out of Time teaser was just a glimpse of the amazing adventures awaiting in the far away land of Anachronia."

So this confirms that it's not Orthen.

Also in a livestream when we kept asking about it, Mod Jack and Mod Shogun kept hinting at it being 'a HAM'. Does this mean that the HAM are after Kerapac now, or am I just an idiot? lol

I wouldn't rule out that Anachronia is Orthen. "Orthen" could just be the Dragonkin name for the place, like how Kerapac refers to the Elder Gods as "Roakin".

They've also made it clear that the Land Out of Time will continue the story of Desperate Times, and it makes absolutely no sense to have Kerapac talk about Orthen, then immediately start teasing a new location, and have that not be Orthen.

Side note: While I doubt that they would want to require Fate of the Gods (Even though they should , but it would likely undermine their "strategy" of resetting the quest requirements), I'm low-key hoping that the sequel to Desperate Times is called "Desperate Measures", and does something with the Measure.

I'm just hoping it has nothing to do with Dragonkin apart from e.g. having a ruined city/cStle there and it mostly just about exploration with the museum and archaeology, along with an intro quest requiring 100 Kudos. And then later, or at the same time, they can add a sequel to Desperate Tmies also requiring the intro quest that continues the Kerapac story.

But I don't want the entire island to be about Kerapac, that would be a waste. It should be about archaeology. Digsite v2.

I'm the opposite, I hope there is a heavy Dragonkin influence here. Kerapac is fleeing here for a reason and it should heavily involve the Dragonkin. Desperate Times set up an interesting story, and it'd be disappointing to see that ignored for a long stretch of time. I'd find a look at the Dragonkin and what their plans are/what exactly Orthen and the Crucible are to be much more interesting than finding fossils.

Re: name, Orthen sounds like a cheeky reference to "now or then," which completely fits with Land out of Time. Or it could be a complete coincidence. But I doubt it.

It... certainly looks like it's going to be a direct sequel to Desperate Times. However, I'm imagining it being somewhat akin to how Mazcab, Menaphos and the Eastern Lands were introduced, where you can explore around a bit, do some miniquests, etc, before or concomitant with pursuing the main story. I'm sure they'll continue with their dumb accessibility trend. I know I rant about that a lot, but I don't think it's doing anything for any players but those who started just after TWW. Because now they're stuck in this continuous Now, which I'm sure is baffling to people starting out (assuming there are people just starting out :| )

Which livestream did they talk about this being a 'HAM' in? If they mean "Hard As a Motherfucker" I am completely down.

Are any of you guys slightly turned-off by the Elder Gods/Dragonkin stuff? It went from being *the* most elite quest content, with the perfect sprinkling of details, tons of interesting speculation, to a cheesy novice-level story where Seren's turned into a total lame-o.
Continual disappointment is the spice of life.

It's actually very possible that it is Orthen, but even if it's not then it's still definitely related to it
Maybe they made the city on the island? Maybe they can go to the city from there? It might be that the city was destroyed and the island has its ruins/remains

They talked about it in last Tuesday's livestream, on the 28th.
First they kept talking about like hamburgers and stuff then they kept saying its a H A M and when I asked them to stop stalling, Mod Jack quoted my comment and he said something along the lines of "I keep telling you, it's a H A M."

H.A.M. was the humans against monsters movement and it'll be so random if they get involved with this all of a sudden. Although it would kinda make sense but at the same time its very random. Maybe it means something else?

I was really into this series and I still am but Desperate Times showed glimpses of more than just this series. The gnomes are busy with something...the white knights are upto something...Juna was surprisingly quiet throughout this...the gods didn't show up save for Armadyl...
also I miss Sliske so much and it was an inside job like wow when will he actually comment on this
Also imo this quest was more of a filler, where it reviewed all the things we've already done, adding more info into them here and there and I really really enjoyed the quest but I get the slight turn-off. I feel like more of the juicy stuff is going to come up.

Also does anyone know if there's any post-quest dialogue after Desperate Times?

I'm still intrigued by the Elder Gods, but Desperate Times is quite literally about how Kerapac hijacked the plot. I know a lot of people hated Sliske as a villain, but I was on the other side of that, as I rather enjoyed Sliske. Desperate Times firmly soured me on Kerapac as much as other players were with Sliske.

Jagex's problems with their quests is that the likes of While Guthis Sleeps and Ritual of the Mahjarrat both managed to tie together various storylines. Sure, they were still able to continue them, like with Plague's End, but then that got tied in further thanks to Children of Mah. Then they kept tying threads together, again and again, before getting to Sliske's Endgame, which the majority of players didn't even play. They said that 11% of players finished it.

Under absolutely no circumstance is that an acceptable number, and while Jagex understands that, rather than fixing that, they're still creating a new problem (Or at least compounding the existing problem) rather than fixing it. The problem is abysmal player engagement with a particular piece of story content, so you'd think they should be trying to encourage great engagement, but instead they continue the story even further, which just leaves players confused, and with no further incentive to play Sliske's Endgame, which leaves that player engagement rate at 11%. Though maybe it's up to 12% by now?

If I'm playing Dragon Age: Origins, I'm not going to be able to just skip to the Battle of Denerim as if I don't need to bother playing the four main quests that the bulk of the game is designed around. Dragon Age 2 or Inquisition might let my choices effect those games, but I'm not talking about later games. I'm talking about the game that I am playing, right now, and the quests that are in this game, and how they relate to each other.

Jagex's current model is about how players should just jump around with these different quests for the sake of accessibility, but it makes the order really confusing. And excuse me, but how are you expecting a quest that requires you to go complete every Elite Dungeon serve as a "jumping on" point for the quests? This isn't about resetting quest requirements; it's about acting like how Marvel Comics just relaunches their books every year. You're not making your story more "accessible", you're just confusing your audience on where the heck they're supposed to start.

The storyline in RuneScape has grown increasingly homogenized, with characters like Azzanadra and Zemouregal serving as token reminders that Mysteries of the Mahjarrat totally used to be a series of quests that once mattered. Now it's just Seren gathering people together because she wants to make a garden for one of her aunts. I honestly expected to talk to King Roald about just rehashing Garden of Tranquility, because that's all Seren's plan would have amounted to.

I 100% agree with everything you just said. In retrospect, requiring every extant quest for WGS was a fundamental mistake. At the time, it was cool - "Whoa, this is serious!" But they must have realized very quickly that they fucked up, leading to the 'reset'. Nowadays, it's as if they think players who've done all the quests love seeing Azzanadra as a little 'easter egg' or something for those in the know. But really, it's more like, "what the hell is he doing here?" And same for all the other diverse characters. Having a big council meeting might make sense with the plot of that individual quest, but having more than five or six representatives show up makes it extremely cheesy.

Regarding Anachronia, it looks like it's going to be accessible to everyone, with only the two quests and only some basic skill level reqs. With that in mind, they might slow-burn some things. Hopefully. I think that's another issue - the pace of the overarching plot is way, way too fast these days. Each subsequent quest is leaping way past the next, and as a result, they have to rely heavily on lore books to fill in the gaps. Don't get me wrong, I love reading them, but i think we need to get more backstory in the (mini)quests themselves. I think they did the Eastern Lands perfectly (spoiled slightly by how they were included in the most recent quests), and I hope they continue that style. Menaphos was a bit botched.
Continual disappointment is the spice of life.
