Okay so i've been meaning to talk to someone about the elder artefacts, if anyone wants to read my ramblings they're more than welcome

We as the player have been assembling quite the collection of (broken) elder artefacts

1. The first one i thought we had was the staff of armadyl (from ritual of the Mahjarrat) but it turns out that the green orb it had was added by armadyl and the actual elder artefact "the siphon" is just the stick so psyche! I guess. Then after we killed sliske in sliske's endgame everyone thought we now had it for sure but Mod Raven confirmed that "Someone" stole it from the player so... psyche! x2.

--We kind of have a broken part of kind of an elder artefact. Yay.

2. After that we learned of the broken pieces of Guthix's sword (aka the blade) in The World Wakes the one he used to become a god and open portals to all other worlds.

--Actual elder artefact! But... Broken. It's right there in Guthix's cave, but i can't pick it up :{ i still return sometimes to try to pick up a shard.

3. Then it was the measure in Fate of the Gods, not much to say about it, it's just a small thermometer for anima.

--An actual elder artifact in my bank :o . The most useless one though...

4. Then "The Catalyst" after Sliske's endgame! if you opened this channel i chances are you already know that the stone of Jas is a tiny bit important for the story of the game.

--Also broken buuuut... it's useful! Now i don't hate hunter as much .

5. And finally, The Needle in The Needle Skips where we used it to rewind time.

--Again, just a shard but who knows if it will be useful in the future, for now it sits in my bank next to all the others.

I fully understand that, unlike most mcguffins in fantasy games, we're not trying to assemble the 12 magical potatoes but the gamer (and collector) in me just can't help himself

And so concludes today's edition of Art's Wall of Text see you next week \o

On the one hand, I would love to gather more of the Elder Artefacts, but I also like that the pieces we do get are fragments. Personally, I hope they do have a quest or something dealing with finding the missing shards of the Blade.

In most fantasy games ... yeah.
The second you learn about the Elder artifacts AND the Elder gods ... ofc ... everyone goes into a rush to collect them all and then in the finale, you use them to slay the Elder God (or whichever one went rogue or something).

Here, the Elder Artifacts are merely tools. They are nothing to an Elder God. And unlikely any sort of threat.
Yeah you could use 1 or multiple to depose Seren/Guthix/Zaros if you wanted to, but it's not like Jas/Ful/etc would even bat an eye to them if you came up wielding one.

In addition, not all of the tools are as useful as you think.
The Siphon, aka Elder Staff/Staff of Armadyl, is a great conduit for power and makes a nice magic staff, but it doesn't have a whole lot of use after that.
The Sword, great for making teleportation rifts, or use fragments to make portals, but beyond that ...?
The Needle is good for simple time travelling, but it has limitations. Not quite as limited as the crystal key.
The Stone of Jas/Catalyst was THE most powerful tool, yet even it was nothing compared to an Elder God.
The Crown Archival is only used to locate the other artifacts.

Now yes, you can gradually leech power, and become a low tier god (empowered "mortal"?)

But as the other young gods have demonstrated, just because you can wield a lot of magical energy, you're still not invulnerable.

According to the Engrams in the Memorial to Guthix, the fairy rings and world gates are made with bits of the broken elder blade. As a result, we kind of acquired these parts of the elder blade after the start of Fairy Tale II and Fate of the Gods.

I still think the reason the player doesn't have more of the Elder Artefacts is because I believe that if the World Guardian possessed and spent their time with the Artefacts for long, they'd become as powerful as a god but without actually becoming a god, sacrificing an afterlife while also having the powers of the World Guardian and the resistance to god magic. I think it's more of a balance thing lore-wise than anything; almost like destiny itself refuses to let us have them to prevent us from growing too powerful.

Nevertheless, imagine what Jagex might do if the Elder Gods decide to just continue on with the next Great Revision. If the World Guardian -- who is resistant to god magic, has immense powers, isn't even a regular human anymore -- obtains/controls all of the Elder Artefacts, could they potentially stand against the Elder Gods themselves? After all, the Elder Gods created the Artefacts to amplify their powers so that they could create worlds. The Elder Gods are powerful but the World Guardian could possibly reach their tier if they had full access to and control over the Artefacts.

But anyways, that's just a bit of rambling.
