I disagree, killing Azzanadra could always be used to show Zaros' emotional side--or see if he even has one at all. He has no real character beyond "serve Zaros" and that's ultimately his purpose in the story. Sliske, Wahisietel...even Akthanakos had their own ambitions and drives beyond just Zaros. Azzanadra has no real ambition or drive, he's an unquestioning servant and nothing else. If he were to die, we wouldn't lose anything. Meanwhile this death could either show us more about Zaros' personality or even unite Zamorak and Zaros together if Mah killed one of each of their most valued followers.
Now...if I'm to be completely honest, Bilrach arguably has the same issue. He is, basically, just a servant of Zamorak who, likewise, doesn't have much of a backstory. Although even then, the fact that his devotion to Zamorak is more competetive makes it more interesting, as well as the fact that he has more ambition. He seems much more knowledgable too, which helps, but I really hope they flesh him out some more. He's still relatively "new" as far as player interaction is concerned, so there's still hope, but Azzanadra has been around for a long time and he has never been anything more than a worthless slave who can't think for himself.
Runescape doesn't need a hero...it needs a villain. An all encompassing force of evil that will remain ever-threatening and use chaos to make the peoples of Gielinor tolerate each other, grow strong together, and fight side by side against this evil. I am that villain.
